We flew London to Montego Bay (and back) at the end of Feb - beginning of Mar 06. This is our experience.
Arrived at LHR to be told flight was delayed due to the incoming flight being late but could not tell us by how long, just told us to "keep an eye on the monitors". Eventually boarded 1.5 hrs late.
There are no seat back TVs and only monitors along the centre of the plane with one large screen in the middle & a small one on each side on the bulkheads. The large screen was not working and we could just about see the small screen but it was impossible to see any special effects or read any subtitling on the films. Three films were on offer, one didn't
play very well and was unwatchable, one was OK and one was a black and white one from the 1950s! Headphones were provided free which is a bonus I suppose these days but when my husband plugged his into the connection on the seat arm - they didn't work without holding on to it and forcing it in, no free seats so couldn't be moved. Made it a longer flight than the 10hrs it was for him!!!
Another big problem I found was that there was no air-conditioning vent to alter, I was feeling warm and automatically raised my hand to adjust the vent - no vents available, making for an uncomfortable flight.
On the outbound journey we were given a hot meal, a bit worse than the normal airline food, a packet of cheese triangle type things half way through the flight and then a cold snack just before landing.
On our return flight we travelled over 2 hrs to the airport to be told our flight was cancelled (I asked why "Maint problem with the plane") we were to be put on the flight the next night (24.5hrs later). We asked when this was known and was told by the AJ rep she was told when she came on duty at 1pm - we hadn't left the hotel until 3pm and she was "surprised" we hadn't been told before leaving. They arranged a Hotel for us and said we would have a late check-out (6pm) and be collected at 6.30pm.
We checked into the Hotel and confirmed the late check-out, guess what? at noon the next day we received a call from AJ saying we had to vacate the room and giving us the choice of "hanging around" until collection of going to another Hotel "15 minutes down the road". We opted for the Hotel and had to repack the few things we had unpacked, after a 30min journey we arrived at the second hotel. There was no AJ rep and we had not been given any instructions for collection, we asked the driver who told us we would be contacted with details. Never received any contact so went to Reception at 6pm with our cases and met a couple who had been with us on the journey there, fortunately they had the phone number of the driver and phoned him to come and collect us! If it was up to AJ we would still have been there!!!!!
On the return flight the main screen was working but it was my turn to have a broken connection to the headphones, there was just a hole where they plugged in, again couldn't move seats as it was a full flight (it would be there was 2 flights in1!). Meals were even more of a disappointment, chose chicken for the main meal, 1 tiny bit in the middle of the tray, with dried up veg and a plantin (I think!). No snack, then a small muffin and 3 bits of melon (that incidentally were frozen!) with a bread roll and jam before landing. Agin no air vent.
I wanted to buy some duty free (value $68) but they didn't have the credit card machine on board! They lost out!
All in all Air Jamaica were disappointing and I would NEVER fly with them again, their Customer Service was non-existant and even the hostesses on board were very curt, hubby got a drink spilled on him when one of them was passing it over and there was no offer of a cloth or an apology.
We've travelled long haul quite a few times and this is the worst we have experienced, we are quite easy going people and will usually put up with anything but I felt others should be aware of what we experienced with AJ.
As you can gather I wouldn't recommend this Airline!
