Advantages: Lots of leg room and good luggage allowance Disadvantages: overbooking is apparently common
I've been married three days, it's 0530 and I've got a plane to catch. I'm (whoops, sorry..) We're (I will learn soon) flying 10 hours to Jamaica on the flag carrier AirJamaica.
In researching travel to Jamaica it seemed as though the preference was for AirJamaica (AJ) flights if you could get them and when booking we were given the choice of AJ or BA and so I went with the flow and suggested AJ.
The luggage allowance was a mighty 32 kg (up to two pieces) and up to three items of hand luggage - BA take note!
As the flight was scheduled rather than chartered we decided to get to the airport really early to make sure that we were not bumped. Just as well we did! We arrived at the airport just after 0900 for a 1430 flight to be told that the flight had been overbooked! Panic! Panic! Not a problem we were told. We were ...
Advantages: You get a free flight for no extra work or effort Disadvantages: none really except it would be nice to get more.
Qantas FrequentFlyer program
An unoriginal name but at least you know what you are joining.
I joined this program just before we left for our Australia and New Zealand trip as we were going to be flying with Qantas and doing several internal flights as well. I am a member of KLM/Air France Flying Blue as well as we use these airlines most of the time. The flight to Australia and back is obviously quite long o you do amass quite a few miles in one return trip so it is worth it.
Qantas is an extremely reliable airline and I have flown several times with them when I lived in Australia but had not flown with them recently so had not bothered about the frequentflyer programme before.
HOW TO JOIN :
Signing up was extremely simple on their website www.qantas.com.au. There is a link near the top of the page for 'frequentflyer program ...
Advantages: Great airline Disadvantages: Frequent flyer seats often booked out months ahead
As a QFF member I must say that there are lots of pros and very few cons in being a member. Award flights are easily booked online however quite often a lot of the flights are booked months ahead or are only available at non-peak times (late at night). I have used my points to fly within Australia as well as internationally several times and have never encountered any problems. Points are accrued in a fair way. If you reside in Australia then a lot of credit cards offer reward schemes where you can transfer your points to QFF. Being part of the one world alliance means you can earn points using other airlines (for example we recently flew Cathay/Swiss from Brisbane Aust to London but still accrued points on Qantas Freq Flyer programme. You get regular updates on special offers and a monthly newsletter via email and the easy to use ...
