Thx for reading my ops - all comments welcome. Haven't written in ages, must do a big redraft on some typos & fuzzy logic in my earlier ops! I’m Irish, living in Argentina & working as a translator (DE-EN). I try to get on site every wk & peruse reviews.

Things are bad when an airline feels we have to do THEM a favour before they'll let us see their fares!
First impressions of the website of the Irish national airline Aer Lingus (www.flyaerlingus.com) are good. It is nicely laid out, it is easy to navigate, your available flights are displayed clearly and concisely. The timetables and special offers are easy to access. The site is available in English, German and Dutch (no, I don't know why it should be in Dutch and not French or Spanish or whatever - no offence to our Dutch friends!). But the actual process of booking a flight over the website is when the frustration sets in.
The fun really starts when, having selected your destination, the dates you wish to travel and your fare class, you click on that magic button "Price your flights". Apart from when promotions are running, it is my experience of booking flights between Munich and Ireland that you are quoted a fare which would keep a small African country in food for a week. There is a button further down with "Search for a lower fare". When you click on this you are asked if you are a member of the Aer Lingus points club, TAB. If you are not, you must apply online for membership before you can be offered the lower fare. Why?!! I mean, I just want a half-decent fare quote, I don't see why I have to hand over my personal details to the airline before I can even SEE what the fare might be. This is no way to do business. I'm looking for a flight, not yet another time-consuming online form to fill in with who I am, what I do, and with which hand I brush my hair. Sure, if in the end I decide to purchase the flight then by all means I'll fill in the form to get the lower fare.
I would imagine that when faced with having to fill in an online form before getting to see the lower fares most people will simply say to hell with this and head to ebookers.com or lastminute.com. A friend who is a TAB member has gotten through to the lower fares, and although they are much more reasonable, your local friendly travel agent will still beat them any day.
Thumbs down I'm afraid!

Sorry for the stingy rate, but I feel you do not discuss all aspects of AerLingus services. I hope it is better than when I flew Ryan Air and they didn't ahve enoough meals to go round. Timmy.

The Dutch point arises because their second hub is in Schiphol (Amsterdam) - I rated helpful because this op was about the site only and not the airline also. But you have a very valid point! If you add airline info then let me know and I will gladly rerate! Cheers Claire

Interesting account of your flight booking/price flights experiences. At one point I was flying a lot to N. Ireland and travelling into ROI so I signed up with their loyality scheme but so far have never managed to book with them. Will check out the website, Interesting opinion, cheers.
