Since the closure of their call centre in Crawley, I have tried to book flights using the remaining AIR MILEs that I have collected over the past three years.
I found it very difficult to get through on their telephone number 0870 5577711 and at times I was queuing for in excess of 40 minutes. On one occasion I had been queuing for ages and finally got through, only to be told that I had been routed to a receptionist and had to be transferred. I could not wait any longer and decided to book online through their website www.airmiles.co.uk.
Their online booking system was quite easy to use and advsied you whether your flight was available and how much tax and passenger service charge would be applicale. However, you can only subit your booking form and the flight is not confirmed for you straightaway.
After submitting a booking form you have to wait for a confirmation of the booking, if the flight is still available, and then call them back to make payment.
This defeats the object of not having to queue on the phones because you end up doing that anyway.
I noted that the telephone number being national rate number meant that i was paying all the time that i was queuing to get through.
When I finally got my telephone call I realised that I have paid nearly £5.00 in call charges just to book a flight.
I feel that the service that is currently being provided does not live up to my expectations and AIR MILES have made an error by closing down their call centre in Crawley.
