By its very nature, Air New Zealand has to serve only long routes, and its service is designed with the difficulties of extremely long flights in mind (for example, more than a day of flying to get from London to Auckland).
Their service to Auckland stops to refuel in Los Angeles, and take 12 hours. You get more leg room and more pampering from the staff than on the more conventional British / American carriers on this route, yet the price is often lower and some very good discounts on the official fares if you are lucky enough to be a first or business class traveller.
