My husband and I went to New Zealand for our hineymoon and we flew from London Heathrow via LA to New Zealand Auckland on the 24th October, 2006. I have to say I was very impressed with the airline and the Boeing 737 we flew on. We were not upgraded so my review is based on standard flight seating. We had quite a bit of room though and the seats were very comfortable for what I would say to be half of our 26 hour flight. We had a television each and the ability to watch a wide variety of films, TV programmes, play games or listen to the radio or various other CD's. The food was exceptionally good for an airline with some dishes that were indiginous to New Zealand. The flight attendants were very helpful and friendly.
We had to get off the plane in LA to go and sit in a room for 2 hours before being alowed back onto the flight to proceed and this was really the onlly downside as the LA airport staff were quite off putting and combative.
The aeroplane itself was very clean and modern in appearance and the noise level from the engines was not too bad at all. The toilets were nice and clean and the washing facilities adequate. There was also a facility on the televisions to find out where in the world you were at any given point and indeed what time it was back home and where you were at that time.
Meals were frequent and drinks were not too long in coming either.
I would have to say that it was the best flight I have taken so far and to be on that plane for 26 hours and then to say that I had a pleasant experience is no mean feat for an airline. I would most definately like to travel with Air New Zealand again.
