Aitutaki
Review of Cook Islands (South Pacific Islands) by
herbb
Advantages: romantic hideaway
Disadvantages: remote
..., but one hour before sunset we boarded the catamaran and on the way to our resort Leo and his crew made local music with real primitive instruments and sung their lovely tunes.
At night we had an after dinner show with the "special island night" performed by some thirty young dancers, drummers and singers with the enthusiasm of a Caribbean steelband while their parents were looking on and cheering any single performance.
Our last day we rented a small Suzuki 4 wheel drive and drove for 2 hours on every meter of the few roads there exist. We watched kids in school, were welcomed in backyards, had a chat with local fishermen and drove right to the top of the hill having a magnificent 360° view of this island in paradise – Aitutaki.
Getting to the Cooks is easy by Air New Zealand either from Auckland or Los Angeles via Tahiti. You may book...

CON AIR
Review of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines by
michellej
Advantages: None!
Disadvantages: Crappy service - no service and too much money for their flights!
...I quickly read through the titles of the KLM opinion page and I really don't agree that they're a 'nice friendly airline', I think they are the absolute worst of airlines you could ever catch!
My experience with KLM, was when I was returning to England with my daughter (3 months old at the time).
Now, I do expect certain services when it comes to taking your children on long haul flights, (the flight with KLM was from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, then back to London), like SERVICE!
I previously flown with Air New Zealand from Auckland - Tahiti - Los Angeles and they were absolutely wonderful, I can't praise them enough.
However, with KLM, the staff were rude, and they first tried to tell me to put my 3 month old daughter on the floor of a normal economy seat! Are they mad or what!?
There's no way a baby is going to fit there, what made...

Papette tourist
Review of Tahiti & French Polynesia (South Pacific Islands) by
jmacleod
Advantages: Paradise is only a short distance away
Disadvantages: Busy, dirty & a bit noisy
...We visited Papette (the capital of Tahiti) in May 2000. We arrived on a Tuesday night after travelling there on Lan Chile from Auckland. It's worth waiting till you get to Papette airport before changing money as the rate there was better than we got in Auckland.
At 11pm on a Tuesday there is NOTHING to do in Papette. The bars & restaurants are closed and the quayside food vans have all gone home.
We found Papette surprisingly busy. The main road around the island runs parallel with the shore and runs past the main shopping/restaurant areas. This road has constant traffic from 8.00am till around 8.00pm so it is worth avoiding hotels on this road as they are a bit noisy.
French Polynesia is (surprise surprise) French. It is well worth learning a bit of French before you visit. You can easily get by in English but you will get better...
