Who wouldn't want to travel half way across the world for a mere price of £329. I have travelled with Air Transat to Canada in the past and recently on our family trip to Canada i travelled with Air Canada whilst my parents travelled with Air Transat. For the same duration trip my ticket cost £585 whilst my parents were just £329 each!! My ticket was nearly the same price as theirs put together. You would hope that the service and facilities on offer with such a hefty price tag would overcome the empty pocket but after my journey i beg to differ. Both flights were direct to Vancouver but the stress of departing from London Gatwick may not be as appealing than leaving from Heathrow with Air Canada. After overcoming the drive at the airport the only differences i could see apart from the services from the two different airports was the baggage allowance. With economy at Air Canada i took 46kg checked baggage and 10Kg On-board, whereas in Air Transat (that is sometimes known as Thomas Cook in recent times) allows 20Kg checked baggage and 5Kg on-board per person. To be frank i couldnt get 46Kg worth of clothes and shoes in my suitcase so it was completely unneccessary. On-board the recent changes on the Air Transat flight is the leather seats throughout and tv screens located in the front headrest. I wished i was in the luxury of cream leather whilst i was in the norm of fabric seats in Air Canada. One positive thing i could say about the flight was the food provided in Air Canada. Usually i stick my nose up at ALL airplane food as it STINKS and makes me puke however suprisingly the food that was served was just as good as food on the ground. I was particulary suprised when they served pasties randomly which were my highlight. All drinks are free on Air Canada including alcoholic whereas on Air Transat there is a set amount of soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are to be paid for. On-board entertainment was exceptional in Air Canada with the latest movies such as Slumdog millionaire, Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Valkryie. During the end of my flight which was meant to land at 11.35 the captain said we have landed 10 minutes earlier than planned at 11.45 when clearly it was 10 minutes late!! i couldnt help but laugh out loud at the stupidness. On the other hand all the times that i have flown with Air Transat they have landed sometime even half an hour earlier than planned. Overall i dont believe that the extra price of £200+ is valid just to fly with the name of Air Canada. If money is a issue then DEFINITLEY fly with Air Transat.
