Pure torture
Review of Air Transat by Tortured

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: extremely uncomfortable

Pure living hell. Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta Dec 2007. I am only 5'3'' and the seating was extrememly uncomfortable. Not only was the pitch the worse I've ever experienced, but the width of the chair was an insane 16 inches. My knees were crammed up against the seat in front of me. The people in front were mean enough to recline the entire flight. People were yelling at each other for bumping each others seats. I thought the man a couple of ...
...him, it was a very uncomfortable situation. We ordered lactose free, didn't get the order, both meals were greasy cheesy meals and I couldn't eat them. 5 hours of pure hell. How does Transat get away with this service and comfort leve???????? Never, never, never again will I fly with Transat. ... Read review

Great Prices --- Uncomfortable Flights
Review of American Airlines - AAL by lcharm

Advantages: Cheap and Punctual (most of the time)
Disadvantages: Food, alcohol not free, domestic connections, rude staff

...SAN via JFK return with American Airlines. The return flight cost £360pp Economy in January via the AA website which is pretty cheap to the West Coast. Outbound: Check in at Heathrow was quick and easy and the clerk was friendly and helpful. Since we had a connecting flight, we were prevented from purchasing spirits as we had to go through security again at JFK (no liquids) read on and find out more in a bit! As the Americans don't trust ...
...a flight on a small American Eagle propellor plane which lasted 40 minutes. Horrible! It was noisy and turbulant and the cabin staff of 1 was rude, seemed to have no clue about her job and she spent more time talking to her Latino comprades in the front row seats. The LAX-LHR leg was fine although our wait at the terminal was about 5 hours. No complaints here other than what I mentioned previously, It was not that packed so we managed to stretch ... Full service? I Think not!
Review of Air Canada - ACA by CanadianTraveller

Advantages: Very few
Disadvantages: Not full service

We choose to fly Air Canada (Aug 2007) from Toronto to LA as it was the national airline. Even though ticket prices were considerably higher than anticipated we choose Air Canada secure in the knowledge that the flight was an international flight and the service, seating etc was as high a standard as any national airline. We were horrified to discover that their ageing aircraft A319 was configured for sardines and way below international standards. ...
...the seams. Were we on Air Nigeria? The trolleys that moved between the aisles had about an inch or two to spare as they completely blocked the passage. Aisle seat passengers could easily loose a toe if not vigilant. Heaven forbid if there was a sudden emergency. The heavily laden trolleys required two attendants to push them along. If you chose to use the toilets at the back you would have to wait for a good 40 minutes. The single toilet in the ... Read review

US Airways - inconsistency at its best!
Review of US Airways by understatement19

Advantages: Service in the UK, Price and plane
Disadvantages: Staff in Philadelphia

...to describe my experiences with US Airways would be 'mixed bag' as in the last 3 months I've really had my highs and low's with this airline. The highs would be £700 + free round trip and luxury hotel accommadation in Manchester but the lows would be stranded in Philadelphia, stranded in Detroit and waiting 14 hours for a flight you were booked on, about to take off and still didnt make it. But I'll start at the beginning... July 23rd, recently ...
...this lead my opinion on US Airways? Surprisingly I'm still a fan. Off the UK ranbranch of the company. They were superb in handling the over bookings and their hospitality was sublime. My experience of Philadelphia was torrid but Detroit staff were much more pleasent. Ultimately the trip was still amazing and if it wasnt for missing the warped tour I would have been content. To conclude, just have your wits about you when booking with US Airways. ... Read review

Good Gatwick-based American carrier
Review of Delta Air Lines - DAL by BenW

Advantages: Good, efficient service; Gatwick convenience
Disadvantages: Not as exciting as other trans-Atlantic alternatives

...there's every reason to praise Delta for their trans-Atlantic service. First of all, they use the more spacious North Terminal at Gatwick, and perhaps because they're not as popular or well-known as other operators in Britain, there's never, ever a queue at check-in if you're comfortably early. Staff are always polite and helpful, a common sign of American carriers in our experience. Timekeeping is another strong point, although sadly their fleet ...
...on their flights. Why can't Delta do the same? Food is always good quality, but remember this is an American carrier so expect American food. Lots of savoury items where perhaps we'd expect something sweet. But this is nit-picking; there's no doubting Delta's convenience. From Gatwick you fly into either Atlanta or Cincinnati, and they schedule literally dozens of connecting flights to all major US cities to follow your trans-Atlantic flight. They ... Read review
