A Class Act?
Review of American Airlines - AAL by Cat199

Advantages: Competitive prices, friendly staff, easy booking, One World member
Disadvantages: Tired planes, new business class seat

I have been flying with American Airlines on a regular basis since about 2001, when it was the airline of choice of my then employer for trans-Atlantic flights. For about five years I made reasonably regular trips over the pond in business class paid for by my company and around the same time I made a couple in economy class paid for by myself. Currently I am based in Bermuda which inevitably means plenty of trips to the US East Coast to relieve ...
...American for several trips to each of New York and Miami. Last year we travelled to Mexico and Ecuador with AA on holiday and finally this year I cashed in seven years of air miles purchasing first class tickets to Japan for myself and my husband. So in a nutshell, this is an airline I have used a lot, I have been in all travel classes and the review will be based on all my experiences. I have been a member of the AA travel awards program since ... Read review

US Airways - inconsistency at its best!
Review of US Airways by understatement19

Advantages: Service in the UK, Price and plane
Disadvantages: Staff in Philadelphia

...to describe my experiences with US Airways would be 'mixed bag' as in the last 3 months I've really had my highs and low's with this airline. The highs would be £700 + free round trip and luxury hotel accommadation in Manchester but the lows would be stranded in Philadelphia, stranded in Detroit and waiting 14 hours for a flight you were booked on, about to take off and still didnt make it. But I'll start at the beginning... July 23rd, recently ...
...this lead my opinion on US Airways? Surprisingly I'm still a fan. Off the UK ranbranch of the company. They were superb in handling the over bookings and their hospitality was sublime. My experience of Philadelphia was torrid but Detroit staff were much more pleasent. Ultimately the trip was still amazing and if it wasnt for missing the warped tour I would have been content. To conclude, just have your wits about you when booking with US Airways. ... Read review

Good Gatwick-based American carrier
Review of Delta Air Lines - DAL by BenW

Advantages: Good, efficient service; Gatwick convenience
Disadvantages: Not as exciting as other trans-Atlantic alternatives

...there's every reason to praise Delta for their trans-Atlantic service. First of all, they use the more spacious North Terminal at Gatwick, and perhaps because they're not as popular or well-known as other operators in Britain, there's never, ever a queue at check-in if you're comfortably early. Staff are always polite and helpful, a common sign of American carriers in our experience. Timekeeping is another strong point, although sadly their fleet ...
...on their flights. Why can't Delta do the same? Food is always good quality, but remember this is an American carrier so expect American food. Lots of savoury items where perhaps we'd expect something sweet. But this is nit-picking; there's no doubting Delta's convenience. From Gatwick you fly into either Atlanta or Cincinnati, and they schedule literally dozens of connecting flights to all major US cities to follow your trans-Atlantic flight. They ... Read review

Possibly America's best airline...?
Review of North West Airlines by cladach29

Advantages: Good route network, comfortable seating
Disadvantages: Food poor in domestic economy, staff not always great, safety concerns

...(GTF), a mid-sized town in north central Montana. This routing meant I had to change 'planes in Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) with a layover of about 5 hours. Cost of the ticket was GBP 280 and the relevant flight numbers are NW43 (London to Minneapolis) and NW709 (Minneapolis to Great Falls). I should point out at this point that I had originally intended to stay in Montana for some time but due to unforeseen circumstances had to return to the UK just ...
...calling the US offices of Northwest and must say that all the staff I spoke to were extremely helpful and courteous. I could have returned on the same day I 'phoned if I was willing to part with an extra GBP 700 (!), but choosing to wait a few days was able to get a return flight by paying an extra GBP 320, which wasn't too outrageous. ---International flight--- Check in at Gatwick (not my favourite airport) was speedy as was progression through ... United, Never Again...
Review of United Airlines - UAL by Captainbirdseye2

Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Food Quality, Customer Service

...vegas. I ended up choosing United Airlines, booking online via their site. Anyway everything was going swimmingly until we turned up at the airport only to find the flight had been cancelled. Now I know these things happen, but I know for a fact that the plane hadn't even left Chicago, and they didn't tell us. The flight was even shown as on time on the website, it was only at the last minute they told us it had been cancelled. If we had known we ... Read review
