I stayed here for one night last week on a business trip to Manchester. I'd stayed there several times before, but they've recently renovated some of the public areas to make a new "Executive Lounge" with computers and things. Not quite sure what you need to get in there though...
The hotel is just off Junction 6 (Hale) of the M56 motorway, just 2 miles from Manchester Airport. and a 10 minute drive up the M56 to Manchester itself. This makes it quite popular for conferences and seminars, and there were a few going on there last week, one was "Effective decision making for non-executive directors of mutuals", that could have been interesting
There's a complimentary shuttle to Manchester Airport and they also offer "Park & Fly" packages (around £8 per day, I think) so you can leave your car there while you jet off...
For food & dring, there's firstly the "Lobby Bar" that's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and you can pick up a fresh Costa Coffee or sandwiches throughout the day (I had a nice three cheese panini). Also, "Mendelssohns Restaurant " is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast here was very nice, and the staff were very helpful. Thirdly, "Players Restaurant" (didn't sample this one) is round the back of the hotel and offers "fine cuisine in vibrant surroundings. A destination restaurant popular in the local area"...
There is, of course, a full room service menu (I can rarely resist a "Marriott Burger") that is quickly delivered, with a smile and £2.50 "tray charge".
There's wifi in the public areas & rooms, so I could check my email (and Ciao, of course) This is a nice, and increasingly frequent service in lots of hotels and I like it a lot. There's a swimming pool & Whirlpool too !
My room (1501 FYI) was massive, with a separate lounge area with chairs and a sofa, and a nice bathroon around the corner, although the fittings here could have done with replacement - just a bit tatty. Also, the air-conditioning wasn't working properly, and with the window open, the noise from the nearby motorway and airport was a bit disturbing. Nevermind.
The staff were all very helpful, from the fellow on reception when I checked in, the telephone operator lady who helped me connect to their wifi network, the fellow who delivered my Marriott Burger (yum yum), to the maitre d' and waitresses at breakfast. A1's all round.
Rates and availability vary, and Marriott do lots of special offers, so check out Expedia or your favourite travel site to find a bargain - although the Marriott website can often give just as good a deal.
