Akani Richards Hotel, Richards Bay

Advantages: On the Motorway
Disadvantages: Not Disabled Friendly

...Being in a wheel chair, I took a break at Charnock Richard on my way to Blackpool. There is a steep ramp to get from the parking bay to the entrance. The Disabled toilet was hard to get in, the door was very stiff and had to be pulled towards you. There was very little space for my wheel chair and the provision of grips were minimal. It was impossible to see the assistant at the drinks counter, and I only got served because a person behind me told the assistant I was there. I spilt most of my hot drink trying to get to the milk, sugar, spoons and then fighting my way past chairs and narrow passage way to get to a table. On complaining to the restaurant Manageress I was told that it was busy period and I should have some one with me to help me. Ah well I will not be calling there again, and urge all ti by pass this Rest Area.... Read review

Advantages: Good service
Disadvantages: A few improvements possible

...It seems that whatever Richard Branson gets involved in (ok lets forhet the trains) has that extra touch for the consumer. I flew Virgin Altlantic to Florida with my family and the service was excellent. The flight staff were friendly and couteous, the on board facilities were good (a good selection of films) and even the food was edible. Our flight was part of a package so I can't comment on the air fare specifically but generally the whole holiday went well. I only have two grumbles: the first is that we couldn't have our hire car delivered to the hotel but had to drive it ourselves and the collection was tedious and the drive after the long flight wasn't much fun, the second grumble is that Virgin never replied to a letter we sent after the holiday enquiring about a refund for an excursion which we had to cancel.... Advantages: erm .... none!
Disadvantages: dangerous hotel, food poisoning, misrepresentation of the holiday ... shoud i carry on?

...! They accepted the poor standard of the hotel, accomodation, the misrepresentation of certain trips (a night of Turkish dancing and music [for which we had to pay extra], where the Russian band played Cliff Richard songs - go figure!) Were we disappointed? ... YES! Did we feel ripped off? ....... YES! Was the standard of JMC good enough? .... NO! Will we travel with them again? ..... NO!!!!! PS: Was staying at the Tusan Beach Resort in Kusadasi, Turkey. Oh, and it transpired, that JMC were fully aware of the problems with the hotel before we travelled. One of our party heard about a girl suffering some sort of alcohol poisoning after drinking fake vodka at the hotel - JMC denied it! JMC also denied before we went that there were any problems with the hotel AT ALL! - how wrong they were!... Read review
