I love the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu - I have visited it twice now on both of my visits to the Hawaiian Islands.
It is a large shopping centre, part of which is in the open air. It is lovely to walk around, browsing in the shops and feeling a nice cool breeze as you do so.

The Ala Moana Center is easy to get to. The first time we went, we walked from Waikiki (probably about half an hour's walk at a leisurely pace) and went through the Ala Moana Beach Park, which is also worth a visit. You can also get to the centre by bus from Honolulu or Waikiki or, if you have a hire car, the center has a large parking garage.

The locals tend to shop there, so it is not full of tacky tourist shops or shops with rip-off prices (as tends to be the case in much of Waikiki).
There is a also a wide range of places to eat. My favourite place is the food court, where you have a wide variety of choices from traditional Hawaiian to contemporary American to Chinese. All of the food in the food court is very reasonably priced and delicious! It's great to go there for your lunch or evening meal if you are on a budget.
If you want to splash out, there are also some restaurants in the centre, including a nice Italian one, where we went on our first visit to Honolulu (sorry, I can't remember its name).

If you like shopping and eating or both, the Ala Moana Center is well worth a visit...I will definitely be going again on our third visit to Hawaii....
Advantages: Nice, good shops, restaurants, good time Disadvantages: None
I have visited Ala Moana several times. It is really one of the best shopping centers I have ever been to (I have been a lot in US and Europe). What I liked the most is that there are many shops starting from medium to high budget, having famous designer goods. The Information Desk staff is very helpful and nice. Lots of small bench areas between shops - so you can leave your family to rest for some time if you want to have a look at some stores ... ...atmosphere inside, open air. This shopping center has the first floor dedicated to all type of restaurants and cafees, so you can eat really quickly and for the price you want. On the top floor they have some beautiful restaurants, having Hawaiian music and dances, with very good service. There is a show time at the afternoon every Sunday - with real Hawaiian Hula dances, songs and fun.
Really good ...
