Beware of getting when comparing online quotes for car hire that Alamo does not include the CDW (basically the insurance)
Just been looking round for somewhere to hire a car over the Christmas period. So checked the usual two sites Avis and Hertz to get their nearly identical quotes. Then I found the Alamo site and thought I will give it a whirl.
The site seemed to be design for hiring car in the US so it took a while to find the UK pick up/drop off points. But once I found there was a location near be it was very easy to enter the dates required and other driver information needed to get a quote. The site also seemed quite quick, if you did not use the calander function with was a bonus.
Even with the ‘The page cannot be displayed‘ error just after the select car page I could see that the basic hire was £122 for an Astra Style car, nearly £60 less than the rest (Hertz £200 and Avis £190) this was for the week between Christmas Eve and New Years Day.So after an email, using the contact us function on the site, to the customer relations department I got a speedy reply and was told the site is up and running again, so I went back to give it a go. But on arriving on the next page, the one that could not be displayed I saw my nice low quote as expected. But then discover the small print under quote. Cost not included, most quote have a few thinks here that usually add up to something between five and ten pounds, so you can kind of ignore it.
But on this site it did not include the CDW which is £16 a day, and when hiring the car for a week this nearly double the price of hiring, taking Alamo from the cheapest to the most expensive... think it is back to Avis for us.
I did email them again to check the price, was again the reply was within twenty four hours, shame it was confirming the higher price.
Unfortunately I do not know anything else about the company or what the pick up/drop off location was like as at this point my dealing with Avis stopped.
