My husband and I had been to Thailand before and had done the whole touring Thailand thing. We had decided that this holiday would be one of rest and relaxation with maybe a show or two.

I had never heard of Alangkarn. We happen to have the tv on in our room one evening as we were preparing to go out for a meal when the advertisement came on about it. I LOVE traditional Thai music and dancing. I started jumping up and down like a little kid shouting, "That's where I want to go! That's where I want to go!" Like a little girl, my loving husband said we would book it straight away for the following evening.

~ Reservation and Cost ~

We had the front desk of our hotel, Avalon Beach Resort, book our tickets. It cost us appox. Bht. 1,000 (£13) each plus Bht 150 (£2.50) for the transport to and from the show. This included a meal before the show as well.

~ Arrival ~

When we arrived, we had our own personal guide that took us into the complex and showed us where I meal would be, helped us take pictures with the elephants and directed us to the theatre. It was all quick and efficient with lots of bows and thank yous.

~ Meal~

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the meal. The extra cost for the meal was about £2 and we had an early enough show that we could have a proper meal when we got back to the hotel.

The restaurant looked more like a big cafeteria. It was buffet with lots of tables. We were directed to our seats and the first thing I noticed was that we were being seated at tables with placemats and knives and forks. I quickly realised that there were A LOT of Koreans going to this show and that their tables didn't have the placemats. I am not sure why. However, I did understand the knives and forks.

The buffet had lots of choices. Many of these choices were Korean dishes to meet the needs of the majority of the people. The food was tasty and I had enough to fill me for the show. We did have to purchase our drinks separately. A coke cost Bht 30 (50p).

~ Pre-Show ~

Before the show, there were lots of activities happening in a large area near the theatre. There was Thai music, Thai dancers, carnival games and large dressed up characters walking around. There were also some elephants that you could feed and take pictures with.

Then, about 10 minutes before the show, an announcer came on over the intercom and spoke in 3 different languages to welcome everyone and telling us the show would be beginning shortly. Then there was a small fireworks display! It was a lovely beginning.

We quickly made our way to our reserved seats. The foyers leading to the seating were beautifully decorated and very Thai traditional.

When we got to our seats, there were some clowns having a bit of fun with the audience. They had these huge balls that they threw up into the audience and the audience hit about.

Then the lights went dark!

~ The Show ~

I am not going to tell you in detail about the show because I feel it would not do it justice. However, it does tell the history of Thailand from caveman time to present. There is lots of traditional Thai music, dancing, fireworks, water effects, live elephants on the stage and more.

Their website shows a good deal of the show and some of what you would expect.

~The Experience~

I really enjoyed the experience and for the price, it couldn't be beat! The costumes were gorgeous and the action was spectacular! I was glad that I had seen it on tv and decided to go. It would be one to put on the list. I definitely recommend this show for a lovely evening in Thailand.
