Turkish (not-so) Delight

Advantages: Beautiful Scenery, Turkish food is FANTASTIC
Disadvantages: Very few British people, locals not as friendly as other places visited inTurkey

...our tou operator is that Alanya is mainly visited by Germans, Dutch and Russians, so therefre the people who live and work in Alanya get paid mainly in Euros and speak German, Dutch and Russian! Not so easy for an English girl to get by.... The hotel in which we stayed, The Beach Club Doganay was certainly lovely, with several pools, a marble lobby and several bars not to mention the brilliant food served all day which was freshly cooked each meal. ...

Bang for your Buck

Advantages: inexpensive, lots to see and do, friendly people
Disadvantages: to short a time there

Great scenery, shopping, ancient sites to see, great food, and friendly people. Go in the spring if you can. Great package deals! The cost, which included round trip air fare, 7 nights and 8 days, and 2 all you can eat buffets each day , was less than $ 500, and we heard of tours that are even less. A real TURKISH DELIGHT...

Advantages: Breathtaking scenery, very friendly people, bargains aplenty, plenty to do in the city and surrounding area...
Disadvantages: The summer HEAT would be too much for some, not everything disability friendly...

~ WHERE? ~ Alanya is situated on the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey and is around an hour and a half drive from Antalya which is the main city of the area and has the areas International Airport. The airport itself is served mainly by Package Holiday flights but Turkish Airlines fly there direct from the UK daily. The road to Alanya runs along the coast and is of excellent quality, being duel carriageway for around half the distance. ~ BRIEF HISTORY ...

Former Fortress now a Tourism Resort

Advantages: Beautiful city underneath a mighty fortress.
Disadvantages: None that I know of.

...but quite spicy too. Alanya is a city I visited each year on my tours. A beautiful fortress is situated on a natural hill surrounded by ocean water. When you are on the top of it, you have a splended view of the city, the harbour and the Turkish coast. Personally I didn´t find the fortress itself worth a visit. Boat tours are offered in the harbour, especially to the caves situated underneath the hill I just mentioned. The people selling the boat ...
