Alanya (Turkey)

~ WHERE? ~ Alanya is situated on the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey and is around an hour and a half drive from Antalya which is the main city of the area and has the areas International Airport. The airport itself is served mainly by Package Holiday flights but Turkish Airlines fly there direct from the UK daily. I have been to Alanya many times in the last four years and would recommend Alanya for anybody wishing to have a holiday with a mixture. There is plenty to do in Alanya from lazing on the beach to shopping down in a town centre with over three hundred jewellery shops. As the evening approaches and with no further than accross the road from the beach why not eat your dinner at anyone of the restuarants looking out to the beach which all offer a large variety of food. As i was planning to visit Alanya with my husband, I have been already thrilled with the fact that this region is located on the very south of Turkey. Though i do not personally like a very hot weather, I decided that it would be better to visit Alanya at the beginnning of September, and was very pleased with the warm and sunny weather, that was just comfortable to me. Over the past two years, I have traveled to the Turkish Riviera in the month of December. The Turkish Riviera is the southern coast of Turkey, situated between Antalya and Alanya. I stayed in 5 star hotel resorts located in the general area of Side, a smaller city between the two major cities I just mentioned. The tours were "dirt cheap" as December isn´t exactly the prime time for tourism. On the other hand the weather was pleasent, with temperatures being around 25° and water temperatures being around 18°. Alanya is on the South Coast of Turkey. It is a medium sized city with evrything you would expect from a Meditteranean holiday resort. The Beaches vary from the sandy Cleopatra's beach to pebbly beaches at the other end of the city. All are clen with crystal clear waters. It was a pleasure to swim in such a safe and clean place. Shopping is a pleasure with not too many over pushy salesmen. You could easily browse in most places - even in the Bazaar.
