My boyfriend and I holidayed to Salou last year with Co-op travel on a last minute deal. We weren't expecting much and the place was quite tacky to be honest. It's not a very big town and every shop sold the same dusty, faded postcards and childrens fishing nets. There was one or two nice bars and restaurants but mainly english grub cafes and several mcdonalds and KFCs. The area was full of spanish teenagers smoking and drinking. The hotel was dirty when we arrived and I turned on the tap to wash my hands and the water that came out was brown, cue lots of screaming and my boyfriend thinking there was a murderer in the bathroom! The best bit of the hotel was the bar and restaurant underneath called "Big Al's". He was a big Geordie who provided entertainment most nights (pub quizzes, bingo, a comedian, a magician), and the food was what you would expect really, although apparently the steak and ale pie was pretty good. Despite everything we had a really good time, although have no plans to return any time soon!
