...***This is a review only of the Spa facilities at Malmaison Newcastle, which can be used by hotel guests or visitors. As we did not stay overnight here, I cannot comment on the rest of the hotel, though everything we say and experienced was exquisite, and I would definately stay at one of their sister hotels if I am travelling away from Newcastle*** Having recently suffered from a bout of depression that left me feeling pretty rough, I decided to treat myself and my best friend to an afternoon being pampered at Newcastle's Malmaison. Their Petite Spa had just been refurbished, and so I decided this was the place to go. Down an old cobbled back lane in Newcastle, halfway down the hill to the Tyne, in spitting distance of the famous Theatre Royal, and overlooked by Lord Grey Himself, is a tiny piece of Sardinia, in the shape of Panis Café. It is a bit of a secret, and people who go there don?t usually talk too much about it, for fear of the place being overrun. ...icecream-related creations around the restaurant so I don't doubt that - if you still have room - dessert would be worth trying. After finishing our meal we returned to the even more packed bar area to finish our wine. There was an air of being rushed by some members of the waiting staff, but others were very friendly, as I have mentioned. The prices were fairly reasonable, comparabale to most general Italian restaurants Overall, an enjoyable night out, a little too busy and noisy but as it was a Saturday night in Newcastle city centre I was not surprised and it's not a bad reflection on the restaurant itself. The food for the most part was excellent, with generous portions and countless options. I would definitely go back if only to try the steak!... Read review
