The only complaint about the Albert we had, is that the lift wasnt working on one day....though it wasnt a problem as we walked down the fire exit stairs.
Luckily it worked going upwards!
All in all a most enjoyable stay at the Albert and have already recommended it to friends who are thinking about visiting Riga!

We stayed here at the Albert for 3 nights at the end of Feb. We flew with Air Baltic for £41.70 each including tax! My daughter and I arrived late at night at the Albert ....they had granted my request for a high, non smoking, room with a view of Old Town! We could see all the tops of the steeples across Riga and the Art Nouveau style buildings. We were exceptionally pleased with our room. Alot of bright lighting available in the rooms but with low lights for night..very cosy. It was meticulously clean with very comfy beds and crisp sheets. They had fabulous under floor heating in the bathroom too. The shower was the best power shower I've ever used! The maid service was great....they even folded my daughters pyjamas and put under her pillow each day! Infact the cleaners were always cleaning the hotel foyer entrance and stairwells regularly. The staff were professional and friendly (unlike alot of Latvians!) We got a very warm welcome. I requested an extra pillow on the 2nd night and they brought it up within 5 minutes to our door. Breakfast was a feast! This was something you'd expect from a 5* hotel! Set in the downstairs restaurant, which was spacious and light. So much choice and it catered for English as well as the typical Continental breakfast. Fresh bread rolls, cereals, pastries, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit and fresh salad. Scrambled egg, eggs you could boil in a large boiler so were fresh to order, bacon, sausage and baked beans (which you dont expect in Europe!) Much to our confusion they even had roast potatoes! They had several types of bread that you could toast yourself. They even had pancakes and porridge! Complete with an array of preserves/honey and nutella! The Star Lounge was fantastic.... On the 11th floor...fantastic views.... We had a particurlarly lovely Waitress who brought me the nicest cocktails(I recommend the Albert's own "Albert on the Peach") The lighting was low and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The decor was in keeping with the rest of the Albert...Ikea with class! The hotel was situated in a safe area which took us 15/20 mins to walk to the Old Town area...though it took us longer cos it was thick snow and we were walking like typical English people who arent used to snow and ice!! On a day with no snow it would be 10 mins. It wasnt far from the Parks/Opera house and Freedom Monument. This is my 2nd visit to Riga and thoroughly enjoy the City... For anybody wondering about Riga....dont hesitate.....its good for all ages/seasons. Plenty of culture...plenty to do...lots of beautiful architecture to see and its always a bonus making the British pound stretch a long way!! Also for all those coffee fans out there...Double Coffee is awesome....the Latvians sure know how to make great coffee! Also for reference,a taxi from the Airport to the Albert is 7Lats (£7) The only complaint about the Albert we had, is that the lift wasnt working on one day....though it wasnt a problem as we walked down the fire exit stairs. Luckily it worked going upwards! All in all a most enjoyable stay at the Albert and have already recommended it to friends who are thinking about visiting Riga!
