Stayed here at the weekend with a group of friends, and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. This is is an attractive historic building, to which new additions have been made very sensitively. Check in was friendly and efficient and bedrooms were of a generally good standard, although we would have much preferred wardrode doors to a curtain! Breakfast was the usual buffet style, very varied hot and cold choices. Dining in the evening was a real pleasure, with friendly service and excellent choices from the fixed price menu (supplements for some special dishes). Service throughout the hotel was of a very high standard, with clear evidence of constant management supervision of the young, enthusiastic staff. There is an excllent leisure club and spa. The attached 18 hole golf course is very good, and only 10 minutes drive will take you to the Park and Ride, which is by far the best way to visit York (free parking and £2 round trip each). We had an excellent package (booked via Q hotels, the group owners). Our 2 nights DBB package cost only £200 per couple overall. Best tip is to join the Q hotels club because this gives you additional discounts, reduced deposit, and advance notice of special offers.
