Aleppo is the second largest city in Syria and is located in northern Syria about 30 miles south of Turkey, 60 miles to the east of the Mediterranean and 60 miles to the west of the Euphrates River.

Aleppo is a very beautiful and ancient city with a history of more than 4000 years.

You can't miss its tourist attractions if you visit Syria! You'll defiantly need to spend few days to see the main tourist sites in Aleppo. Hotels are available and cheap compared with many other countries, prices range from £3.00 to about £100.00 a night depending on the quality of the hotel and services.

Here is a brief information about the main attraction site in Aleppo:
* The Citadel of Aleppo: is the most famous site in Aleppo. It has been built on a high hill for the purpose of city defence. Although all the attacks and earthquakes over the thousands of years, it is still there displaying the great history of the area. Also you will have the chance to enjoy seeing the city from the top of the citadel.

* Aleppo National Museum: contains plenty of artifacts and manuscripts describing the important role that Aleppo played over the history of the middle east over within the past 4 millenniums. There are items from the time of the different civilisations who controlled Aleppo and among these civilisations are the Amorite, Hittite, Egyptian, Mitannian, Assyrians, Achaemenian Persians, Seleucids, Hellenistic, Roman and the Arabs.

* The great bazaars and suqs which mean (markets) in Arabic.

* The Gate of Antioch,

* Bahramiye Mosque,* Zakariyeh Mosque.
  • Bab Qinnesrin gate.
  • The ancient caravansaries (hotels in the covered mosque).

* Qal`at Saman which is 40 miles to the Northwest of Aleppo.Aleppo is also a centre for industry in Syria. The city it is famous with silk weaving, cotton printing, the manufacture of soaps and dyes, and the preparation of hides, wool, dried fruit, and nuts.

The university of Aleppo is the second largest university in Syria and was founded in 1960 and thousands of students receive their high education there every year.

Also one of the greatest Arab poets, Al-Muttanabbi, lived most of his life in Aleppo more than a thousand years back.

The best time to visit Syria is either April to June or September to November because the weather will be moderate (15 C night and 25-30 C day time), however the rest of the year is either cold winter or hot summer.

Many tourists cross to Syria from its neighbouring counties (mainly Turkey and Lebanon), however, you should obtain your visa from any Syrian Consulate in the country of residence. This takes a few days to process and will save you from any problem or delay on arrival.
