Advantages: Something for everyone Disadvantages: None, it's great!
...; the children loved it but we were very embarrassed. The Botanic Gardens also have a Museum, which is free and well worth a look. The other main Southport park is Victoria. This is the site of the famous Southport Flower Show. It is also the home of the Southport model railway society, where train rides are available at weekends.
Talking of trains, there is a small training running around the Marine Lake, which is fun and loved by train enthusiasts.
The Marine Lake is worth a visit – for sitting watching irritable swans bite people, to having a thrilling ride in a super-fast speedboat.

I can’t talk about Southport without mentioning the shops. They really are something else. You can spot the true locals (known as Sandgrounders – those who were born in the town) by their high-class clothes. These are people with money...

...I used to live in Southport, I can tell you about the real Southport.
You will not find a lot of sand on Southport's beach the reason why is there is a sandworks situated in Marshside, this sandworks takes all the sand off the beach.
You can park on the beach for a couple of quid, the reason why is it's not very often you see the tide come in.
The beach is completely disgusting; it's full of rubbish in my opinion it's a health hazard it's not unusual to see used syringes, condoms and sanitary towels.
Southport has a pier with a train running along it, there is a pub at the end.
Southport has a fair it's a bit run down, some of the rides could do with a lick of paint.
You would be lucky to see a souvenir shop, although there are plenty of pubs and take away establishments.
But Lord Street the main shopping area is fantastic...

Advantages: Cheap Family Holiday, Kids love the place Disadvantages: Expensive Food, Bluecoats can get on your nerves
....
Dislikes of Southport Pontins.
With this time of year, they wasn't alot of entertainment in the day. If you didn't have a car there was nothing around to walk too.
Food wasn't that great and expensive too, apart from the Queen Victoria.
Likes of Southport Pontins
Food in the Queen Victoria was very good, reasonable priced. The entertainment was okay, what you would expect on these kind of holiday breaks. The beach would have been a great, if we had come in the summer.
There is lots to do with the children, if you come in the right months.
The indoor adventure play area was excellent - both my children loved it and it was hard to get them out.
You get made welcome, the arcades are great fun for all the family, the amount we must of spent trying to get loads of tokens as our Daughter had her heart set on a Barbie watch it would have been...
