ALFAMA just is name deserves to be written in capitals as itself it is the house of FADO fado is as portuguese style of music that is so ,so, filled with emotions it describes the love, sorow, sadness and love for those who are gone in some of the lyrics many portuguese can find some resemblance to their life, past lifes, or present ones,in Alfama you can find restaurants and typical Fado houses for those open to the experience of a new type of music, you can also dine and wine wille listening to this beatiful sound singed by either the professionals or the street singer s those for me sometimes have the roughest voice but the one with more feelling into it,Alfama defenetly smells like LIsbon,(sardines, fado, guitars and wine),In the Alfama you can find numerous little grocer shops, workshops, taverns and small restaurants having mostly not more than 3 tables. Choose the cathedral as start/final point so that you don't get lost in the alleyways. The Castelo de Sŕo Jorge sits enthroned over the Alfama. There is an indescribably beautiful view over Lisbon .It is also an ideal place for photos. The Miradouro de Santa Luzia, which offers a good view over the lower parts of Alfama and the River Tejo. Moreover, it has some of the typical Portuguese blue and white ceramics on the walls of the Santa Luzia church. If you decide to try the Lisbon or the Alfama nightlife star by going to a Restaurant(if your looking for an unexpensive meal try one of those small restaurants with only 3 tables, there you will find the cheaper option, and still a good meal) and have dinner normaly arround 8.30 pm and enjoy one or several portugese dishes, afterwards go to a pub (there are several arround the restaurants),some might have life music for you to enjoy, have a drink and if after that you decide to go for a night club don`t go before 2 ou 3 am as some clubs only close at 7 am (so it all night long),drink in moderation still enjoying yourself be aware that police atitude is diferent from England the have a stronger aproach towards crime in any form.If driving is your intention be aware that in Portugal people drive on the Left lane, car rental is available either by your travel agent or independant at the aeroport.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
I found it hard to find the best places to visit if I ever ventured to Lisbon. More detail would help, and if you used more paragraphs it would help to seperate all the good bits!

There are some interesting ideas here but to much still missing. Let me know if you decide to add to this because I'd love to know more. Fiona

Advantages: Easy to get around and different quirky places to visit, everyone speaks English Disadvantages: The City seems a bit 'faded glory'- places uncared for and tired
