Advantages: Lots of lovely trees, and a nice wander around Disadvantages: Not great if you don't like trees (!)
...We visited The Westonbirt Arboretum, near Tetbury, last week, so I thought I'd let you all know what it's all about and what we thought of it.
There are two main areas to Westonbirt, and we wandered around both of then, the Old Arboretum (started in the 1820's by a chap called Robert Holford) and The Silk Wood, expanded by Holford's son, George, who took over in the 1870's. in 1956 the entire 600 acres (240 hectares) were handed over to the Forestry Commission who manage things now.
There are lots of lovely trees and plants, and some very good paths around then, and everything's labelled with very informative signs. There's a seasonal "Spring Trail" at the moment with numbered plaques providing even more infomation about the greenery you're walking through.
Westonbirt has a wide range of facilities, all close to the main car park...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: The worst night I ever spent in a Hotel
...My partner and I recently stayed the night at The Jarvis Preston ParkHotel in Brighton. We were guests at a wedding and the groom had reserved some rooms there for anyone who needed to stay.
The quality of the room was abismal! The decor was poor, the room was tiny and the bed was not even a standard double size. The room was made to look even tackier with stickers advertising the hotels snack bar stuck to the mirrors. The bathroom although a reasonable size was in poor condition with the tile grouting missing or turning black.
We were pretty shocked that the room cost us £80 for the night!...

...I stayed at the Marriott Royal County recently. The hotel is very easy to find. Local shops are only a five minute walk away as are local pubs and restaurants. This hotel also makes a good choice. One problem you might find is trying to find a parking space. This is an ideal location from which to explore Durham. There is an indoor heated pool. The service in the hotel was first class.
