The Algarve is one of my favourite places in the world, and why shouldn't it be? It has everything you're looking for - beautiful beaches, fantastic food and very very good wine!!
This year we decided to move away from the resorts and stay at a bed and breakfast called Duas Quintas http://www.algarveguesthouse.com As the bed and breakfast was tucked away in the hills it certainly gave us a chance to see another side of Portugal that we would not normally see. It's very easy to go on holidays and just sit on the beach all day (which is great) but this year we decided to go hillwalking and venture into the Monchique mountains as well as exploring some tiny villages. The owners of Duas quintas were very helpful, and as they were very experienced walkers were able to give us lots of advice of the best areas to visit. If you are visiting the Algarve I would definately recommend spending at least one day of your holiday doing something different like seeing a traditional village or climbing the hills in Monchqiue.
