I chose to go to Alghero, Sardinia after looking at Ryan Air's fly for a penny (+tax and charges which were low) site. I also wanted somewhere which will still have good weather in October. We were lucky because it was very hot for four of the five days we stayed. The Punta Negra hotel is just a short ride from the airport and cost about 20 euros by Taxi, the people behind us in the taxi queue were also going to the same hotel (realised only when we go to hotel reception) so worth asking if any one wants to share a taxi. We ate at the hotel that night as we arrived quite late and it was very dark and we did not know what dining options were in the local area. The hotel meal was a set 4 course menu. I wasn't too keen on the food or the restaurant and it seemed quite rushed. We ate out for our other meals. Breakfast was nice but simple, there was fruit, rolls with ham and cheese and cakes and biscuits. In Fertilia there is a pizza restaurant and an irish bar which has a creperia and does great brushetta if you want a light meal. The village/town was very quiet and there wasn't much open at the time we visit, it may be busier in the high season and more open. There is also a small bar with a couple of tables outside, the bar server was not too friendly but the beer was cold and you got twice the size for cheaper than the hotel drinks. There were often locals at this bar, always a good sign but i think it was really the only proper bar there. Near this pub is a bus stop to get to Alghero and also the airport. The hotel also runs a small minibus into Alghero you are alloted a slot to return and if you want a later bus you are not guaranteed a seat back. We had a meal out on the last night and it was really nice and not too expensive, the town is really nice to walk around and there are some nice gift shops and many ice cream shops which are a visiting must. In the day time there are boat excursions, mainly to see the caves but we also took a dolphin watching trip, however no dolphins that day. Still had a good trip tho. The hotel staff were all friendly and the room we were allocated was huge. We paid extra for a sea view which we were glad about when we saw how nice the view was. Also the balcony was nice for drinking local beer and looking at the fab view. We drank the beer out of the mini bar and replaced it from the village supermarket which is super cheap, and which also sells a litre of wine for 1 euro (and its quite drinkable) We didn't do alot as the hotel was so nice we spent quite alot of time relaxing by the pool. I highly recommend Alghero and the Punta Negra, just wish we had stayed for longer! I would return to the hotel in the future.

You haven't said much at all about Alghero and that's the category you've posted in! Let me know if you add anything about the area to your review and I'll be happy to reread. You might do better to get your review moved to a category on the Punta Negra hotel as you write more about that in your review than about Alghero (existing Ciao category is at http://travel.ciao.co.uk/Punta_Negra_Alghero__6379041) Regards, Lexy
