Alicante Airport...Gateway to the Costa Blanca?
Advantages Central arrival and departure point for the Costa Blanca
Disadvantages Road is the only access, no trains
First impression when you arrive here to catch a plane is the queues!! They seem to stretch right around the concourse and usually move exceedingly slowly.
The area for over sized luggage is very poorly signposted, I am sure travellers with golf clubs, and the one poor couple I saw with a child stair gate, are throughly fed up when they finally locate it.
On up the escalator , through the security checks and into the departure lounge. this could be anywhere in the world, there is the ubiquitous Burger king and a Haagen Daas outlet, one newspaper and magazine shop.
Duty Free shopping is available for all but beware.....cigarettes are more expensive by about 3 Euro a carton than they are in a normal Spanish tobacconist, so if you want to take cigarettes back buy them before going to the airport. alcohol is also more expensive.
The departure area is clean and has several washroom and lavatory areas.
No provision in the way of play areas made for children, a sad lack in my opinion.
No smoking areas are operated in a somewhat desultory manner by the Spanish......it is difficult to get away from cigarette smoke.
Overall this is an adequate airport but I would hate to be delayed for any length of time here, especially if i was travelling with children.
