Mr Hill
Advantages: Rooms, location overall experience Disadvantages: Food, recreation, killjoy lifeguard!
We stayed at the Marriott Denia for 10 days towards the end of July 07. There were 4 in our party 2 adults and 2 boys (11 and 9 yrs old). If you have every stayed at the Son Antem Marriott in Majorca, you will be disappointed,
as it is nowhere near as good! Having said that, we still had a fantastic time. I think it's best to point out the good and bad points. All of the faults could be rectified very easily. Firstly, the service is the normal high ... ...of the horrible female lifeguard, she really is a nightmare.
And / or the Marriott Denia should make their minds up whether they want to be a family resort or cater for more 'well to do' adults / couples only. As it is the resort doesn't really satisfy either...... ...

A Great Place for a Sunshine Break in a Gorgeous Spanish Town
Advantages: 3 Swimming Pools, Lovely Spa, Family and Couple Friendly, Great Food Disadvantages: Food is pricey, beach is stoney, a bit of a trek from Alicante Airport
...6 night break at the SH Villa Gadea. We were looking for a hotel in Altea/Calpe for a sunshine break at the beginning of September ’09. We couldn’t get into our first choice hotel further along the coast and we were a little nervous about this one as there aren’t many reviews on it. We flew from Manchester with BMI Baby – flight is less that 3 hours. The hotel is 60km from Alicante airport and getting there is not easy via public transport so either ... ...bet. We opted for a taxi and it cost around 80 euros. On arrival at the hotel (around 4pm ish), we were checked in by the staff at the front desk. Not the quickest and most efficient service I have ever experienced but non the less, they were all polite, spoke good English and a young lad took our bags up to our room. We were more than pleased with the room, as we had been upgraded to a Superior Room on the first floor (room 1110). We had a fabulous ...

Middle of nowhere
Advantages: well maintained attractive hotel Disadvantages: hard to get anywhere
...confirmed. What a mistake! The hotel is very isolated and we do not drive. There was supposed to be a shuttle bus from the hotel to Alicante and El Campello but this does not run on Monday or Tuesday. On Monday we decided to brave public transport to reach Alicante. We had to walk for ten minutes up to the nearest roundabout- the only real civilisation near the hotel where there are a couple of bars and restaurants. From there we could get a bus ... ...all the trip from the hotel takes about 90 minutes or more. Coming back on the first day we missed the last bus from Mutaxmiel because we couldn't find the bus stop. We tried in vain to get a taxi. In the end we called the hotel and asked them to ring for one. They refused initially which was very annoying. We don't speak Spanish and were totally stranded. My husband had to call them again before they finally agreed to get one for us. When we got ...

Castilla Hotel Alicante Playa San Juan
Advantages: close to the beach Disadvantages: service poor.
...spent a week at the Castilla and have returned home very disappointed with the hotel itself and the concrete jungle in which it resides. To start with the pluses: The hotel is spotlessly clean - though we did find in our room a cockroach of the sort of proportions which might have got it some extra work in the film "Alien". The cleaning staff and indeed all the female staff working in the hotel were helpful and efficient, pleasant to talk to and ... ...None of the male staff measured up to the female. Surly, unhelpful and distant are the kindest words I can find. The food was poor - it was never served warm. Maybe it is a Spanish tradition to serve mashed potato and vegetables cold. If so it is not one that I have encountered before. The shops in the area are full of delightful fresh fruit and vegetables. Why did the hotel only serve tinned? The menus gave no indication of what the food actually ...

Cheap and comfortable
Advantages: Local to town centre and cheap Disadvantages: Noisy if on road side of hotel / thin walls
I went to this hotel in February for a long weekend with my partner and some other family members.
The hotel is situated in a side street called Calle Ramon Gallud which is not too far from the sea and the main marina/promenade. It was however on a fairly busy road which would probably be even busier in the summer. The room that we were in faced out on to the road and on the first morning the bin men came at around 3am which woke me up. I also noticed ... ...and the entertainment in the hotel in the evening was different. It appeared as though it might have been a local singles club, but we could not understand the language and this may have been only through the winter months
Drinks were expensive in the hotel but very generous with the quantity of the spirits.
There is an underground car park which was excellent as it was locked and safe but there was a charge for this.
On the whole the hotel was ...
