And the choice is large though it doesn't favour (to its great credit) the generic lagers found in many other pubs. Behind the counter the array of wines on offer are ... ...the weekend there's hardly a more pleasant place for a drink and a snack in the afternoon. Ok it's a chain bar so there won't be any surprises, but for good service, good food and a good drink in pleasant surroundings, I heartily recommend All Bar One in Leeds. ... more

Location is all with this type of establishment and the Leeds example couldn't be better appointed. You can watch the World go by through the Bar's large uncluttered windows, while you enjoy your drink of choice. And the choice is large though it doesn't favour (to its great credit) the generic lagers found in many other pubs. Behind the counter the array of wines on offer are ranged the length of the bar to ceiling height and they are well kept as I can vouch for by experience. You can sample their real ales if you prefer, or try a continental lager on draught. The interior is roomy with high ceilings (Ok ceiling fans and the obligatory galvinised ducts - but these aren't a distraction), unfussy decor and a choice of leather sofas with low tables, or wooden chairs and settles. The food is good and not too fancy and apart from the standard menu, specials appear on blackboards dotted about the place. The bar does get busy after working hours on weekdays and for about an hour or two there's a preponderence of suits. But these soon fade away. If you're in Leeds at the weekend there's hardly a more pleasant place for a drink and a snack in the afternoon. Ok it's a chain bar so there won't be any surprises, but for good service, good food and a good drink in pleasant surroundings, I heartily recommend All Bar One in Leeds.
