So All – Bar – One what has this got to offer?
Lunchtime, usually a rush, get in, get seated, order, throw down a pint maybe two and wait, wait and wait for your order to be taken let alone served. Then served and literally thrown down your throat! Ah this is true of many a City Centre Establishment. Why the rush you ask, ahh failing to impress the Management that the Mediterranean Lunch followed by Siesta ... more
A pompous title for a non-pompous establishment.

Here begins a small tale of a tall man and his colleagues of equal or greater proportion who work in the centre of Edinburgh: less be said as not to confuse, I am, we, are surrounded by Public Houses, Restaurants, Bars and Clubs. As far as food and “Lunch” in particular all tastes are catered for.
My experience - some very good places where the food, service, price are excellent and some others which to be kind - are not so good!
So All – Bar – One what has this got to offer?

Why the rush you ask, ahh failing to impress the Management that the Mediterranean Lunch followed by Siesta idea was one to be followed, no to be embraced as it was life itself failed! So 1 hr 15 that is the limit!
All – Bar – One is an old retired Bank don’t ask me which one, I cannot remember. On walking through the entrance you step into what can only be described as a different world as far as city centre Bars go.
You view a large rectangular room, high Georgian ceilings, sparsely decorated, walls cream in colour. You see large rectangular windows running down the full width of the left-hand side of the room, very bright. You also see a low Mahogany Bar running the full width of the right hand side of the room, decorated with Beer/Lager pumps of various Brands on the wall behind the long bar?, wine, wine and more wine, wine heaven even.
Also on that side of the room you see a hive of activity. Additionally placed on the walls at the top of the room and down the wall behind the Bar are Blackboards. These detail all and everything on the menu and for sale from the bar.
Running down the middle of the room can only be described as “School Dinner Tables” pre arranged for large groups. Adjacent to these tables are groups of four seaters.
Service is sharp; no ordering beer from the bar, table service is the order of the day. Drinks delivered, food order taken, 10 mins later food order served. Ok I could go on for pages, there would be little point, and you get the notion of what I am trying to share.
Ok, how about just a taste of the menu?
Sandwiches: Toasted Panini with char grilled Aubergine, Tomato, fresh Basil Pesto and Mozzarella.
Grilled Chicken Breast in a Toasted Foccacia with Red Pesto and Baby Spinach.
Main Courses:
Fresh herb mash with pan-fried oyster and field mushrooms topped with char grilled asparagus and cream.
Fresh Cod in Beer Batter with tartar sauce and fries
Platters:
Coriander Burgers, Char grilled Chicken wrapped in Bacon, Cajun Fish Kebabs, Honeyed Lamb Sausages, Garlic Bread, Mayo and Fries
There is more but I am not a cruel man, lest you jump on a train, get in the car, or walk if you are a local, best find out yourself.
Prices, higher than usual but worth it.
A lunch for the discerning, why? If you want to escape the usual bustle of Bar Lunches in the City Centre I recommend "All - Bar - One". The food is better than any "Bar" in the area, the service is very good and the place is just discerning, indeed a touch of class without the class thing if you get my drift!
Advantages: Location central to the city Disadvantages: Service with a non scottish flavour
...didn't choose to go to All Bar One in George Street it kind of chose me. Well I am up in Edinburgh on business and when you ask a prospective client where do fancy for a beer after a work you can't really say no. So He said I'll meet you at 5.30 at All bar One on George Street. This was perfect because in Edinburgh George Street ius one of the easiest streets to find. You get to Princess Street walk up the hill at right angles and after Rose Street ... ...Walk along a bit and All Bar One is there on the junction with Hanover Street. So it is close enough to the main attractions in the city centre. It is a former bank, you can tell that as soon as you walk in. High ornate ceilings make a good atmosphere and they have created a few nooks and cranny's for intimate diners so it is not just one big room. The bar has a wide selection of beers and wines and there is a huge blackboard full of specials on ...

AllBarone is an excellent bar with a great attitude and is always crouded. They are a chain with numerous bars around the capital. The one in Leicester Square is probably the best known because of location. The door policy can become strict towards the end of the evening, groups of guys not being popular and if you are too drunk you wont get in. The clintelle are all good and tend to be friendly. Music plays in the background and is just the right volume. The whole look of the bar is wooden, long wooden benches tend to be one of the main seating choices available. They serve food as well and in the daytime coffee and tea with daily newspapers. Some locations provide bar games. The best drink is the Cheque (?) beer known as Staropramen, its 5.5% and is delicous, dear too! ...
AllBarOne on Kings Street proports to offer excellent food at a reasonable price, unfortunately it doesn't quite make it.
The surroundings are very bare and basic, with the menu written on the wall at various points around the place. The staff wear outfits that make you think of old fashioned barbers rather than anything else, but on the whole are friendly and helpful.
The food however tries too hard to be sophisticated, when simple fare would perhaps be better. They offer a selection of meals, including hot and cold sandwiches (cold ones are better left alone!), the hot sandwiches are possibly a redeeming feature although the amount of green salad served with them (at two different varieties of lettuce, ooo!) dwarfs your sandwich.
An okay kind of bar for a quick bite to eat, but wouldn't really want to linger. ...

Advantages: Pleasant roomy interior, good food and drink Disadvantages: Moderately pricey
Situated on the corner of Greek Street and East Parade in the centre of Leeds, AllBarOne is a superior example of a chain Bar. Location is all with this type of establishment and the Leeds example couldn't be better appointed. You can watch the World go by through the Bar's large uncluttered windows, while you enjoy your drink of choice. And the choice is large though it doesn't favour (to its great credit) the generic lagers found in many other pubs. Behind the counter the array of wines on offer are ranged the length of the bar to ceiling height and they are well kept as I can vouch for by experience. You can sample their real ales if you prefer, or try a continental lager on draught. The interior is roomy with high ceilings (Ok ceiling fans and the obligatory galvinised ducts - but these aren't a distraction), unfussy decor ...
