It's All Inclusive

Advantages: Lighthearted and humourous
Disadvantages: Reading about a lovely warm location when it's cold and wet outside

***Background*** After reading the lovely comical novel Size Matters, I decided to see if there were any other Judy Astley books in our local library and found a couple including this one. Judy Astley has written many novels dating back to 1994 but she started out by writing a picture book for children called When One Cat Woke Up. Size Matters was published in 2004 so has been on our shelves for a couple of years and it does make me wonder why I haven't noticed it around these parts before. ***The Story*** Beth and Ned have been going to an All Inclusive holiday spot on a Caribbean Island for a few years now. It has all the luxury that a couple who need to escape needs and also the chance to get away from the kids for a while. Unfortunately the past year hasn't been so good for this couple as Ned has been having ...

Is guilt all inclusive?

Advantages: a very easy to read book
Disadvantages: possibly only a read it once kind of book

I was looking for a nice easy read, and very occasionally during my library visits, I will get lucky and find a new author with a range of good books to read. All inclusive is about a couple in their forties who have been going to the same holiday spot for years. They have their routine well and truly set up. There is a group of couples who meet up every year without prior arrangement, it just seems to happen, and they all have a good two weeks basking in the Caribbean sun. This year there will be one difference as we find out at the very beginning of the book. Beth, married to Ned had thought life was perfect until she found out he had had an affair a few months previously. Beth has no idea who the other woman was, and nor did she want to know, but she was all too aware she wanted to save their marriage and the best way for her to ...

All Inclusive - how the hotels may view them

Advantages: Don't have to budget for food & drink, kids catered for
Disadvantages: If you book a cheap one - you'll get cheap facilities

From a personal point of view, if I am going abroad it is to sample another country's culture and food, meet the local people and explore the sites, so the idea of being in a large hotel complex for two weeks has never appealled to me, but I can see that for families, it may seem an economical option. Having worked in the travel industry for over 10 years, I think I can say that when it comes to all inclusive - "you get what you pay for". If you book with one of the top range companies offering all inclusive, and the price is realistic for 2 weeks with food and drink etc, then you are most likely going to have an exceptional experience. If you get a cheap deal, then it could be a totally different experience. From speaking to Greek friends who work in budget all inclusive hotels (although I don't imagine for a minute that such ...
