In june me and my fiance took out second holiday of the year to Costa De Almeria in spain, this was located in south easternSpain. We stayed in the resort of Roquetas De Mar (this translates to "little rocks of the sea) We spant two blissfully peaceful weeks in this tranquil, beautiful and traditional Costa, which thankfully has not become accustomed to Britain yet!
It is a modern resort, but depending on what you like, you may find little to do during the day.
There is one water park called "The Mario-waterpark" it hosts all of the usual things that a water park normally does like the slides, pools and places to eat, be careful though as they
do tell you off when you take photographs in the park. It is only open in high season, and will cost around £7 for an adut and £5 for children to gain entry in to the waterpark. If you are a keen golfer then there is a very large and beautiful golf course, we didn't go personally, but from what we saw from our hotel room, and from what we heard from other people it did look nice. Alternativly, you could try your hand and the water sports that they have on offer at the beach, they do things like Jet skiing and things such as that, it is good fun and is reasonably priced too at around £10 for an hour.
Apart from all of that though, there are lots of excursions that you can go on, for example, there is one called mini-hollywood, this is set in a real wild western town. You can join in a real cowboy shoot-out and at the end of it all you can go and visit the wildlife park. All of this costs about £20.
Now, if you like your shopping, then I would advise you to go on an excusion called "The day-tripper" here you get the chance to try your hand at bartering in an open air market, it is great fun but be aware that not all you see is good or real (a women tried to sellmy fiance an 18c chain for 100 euros, we managed to get her down to 50 euros, which was good, she also tried to seel us a bracelet for 40 euros and we got her down to 20 euros, even though they both said they were 18c gold, when we got home we found out that they were both fake.) Now, after you have bartered you way down the market (which sells everything from flowers, cooking spices, bedspreads and clothes) you get to go to Almeria city, here you can go to the Olive oil museum, where you get to watch a short presentation video and then get to taste some of Spains best olive oil with bread and tomato, the Spanish way! From there we went in to the actual city, we got to go in to the high street shops that are just coming up in Britain like Mango and Zara, because they are in Spain, the clothes are all cheap. We got time to brows around more shops and buy even more stuff. You can also go to the Cathedral and take a walk around this really beautiful architechtual place. After all of this, we went to the Mediterraneo, this is a fairly big shopping pricinct with shops like Mango, Zara and even Dorathy Parkins, you can pick up loads of bargain here. This was our favourite day out, it cost us 29euros each, which is about £20-23.
There are plenty mor excursions to go on, but they would take me at least a week to tell you about them all.
We stayed in the Aparthotel Arena Centre. The rooms have stunning views, ours was overlooking the Mountains. The rooms itself was beautifully furnished and was also well equipped with showering/bathing facilities, sattalite T.V, kettle, oven, fridge and freezer. We did feel though that we were ideally situated too, as we went self catering, the supermarket was litrally just outside of our hotel, we were a five minute walk from the beach too, this is a shingle beach.
There are plenty of places to eat including a McDonalds, pleanty of Pizzarias and other eating outlets offering a variety of cuisines from around the world. There are also places that you can dring too, from quiet little bars, to rather large nightclubs. We did find out refuge though in an English pub called "The Tavern" it was situated just round the corner from our hotel. They served great food, they were really friendly and great to talk too, they always had the kareoke on too. THIS IS A DEFINATE MUST GO TO!!! Food and drinks are all relatively cheap, a large beer will cost you about £1.30, a Smirnoff Ice will cost you around £1.60, and a typical 3 course meal with no drinks will be priced around £8.
All in all, this is a BRILLIANT holiday which is though mainly for families and couples. It really is worth a visit to this traditional Spanish Costa.
