Advantages: Pretty views Disadvantages: Exspensive, smelly and unfriendly locals
...Okay! I see I could do with more practise! Im used to other review boards such as holidays uncovered where the format is different!
Although I participated in a 2wenty's package holiday (and was therefore expecting drunk and rowdy teenagers and less than decent accomodation) I was disappointed with tenerife.
I stayed at 'AlohaGardens' apartments, about a 5 min taxi to the beach front/bar scene. Although the hotel was OK, the staff were rude (for example, the security guard locked my friend out of the hotel for 20mins, at aprox 3am because he wanted a tea break!), food was often over cooked, the pool was small and the apartments seemed to have a large community of cockroaches!! On the plus side, as we were on the mountain side we had a fantastic view from the pool, and the atmosphere round the pool side was nice.
The bar scene...

Advantages: Cheap food, drink, cigarettes & Great 4 watersports Disadvantages: Do not stay in Playa de las americes if u want quiet a holiday
...When I mention Tenerife as an ideal Holiday people quite often frown. I think that this is due to the fact that everyone imagines Tenerife as consisting of one town Playa De Las Americas.
Most people see this town as full of lager louts and to be honest of a night time they are right. Tenerife however is more than Veronica's party strip. Los Cristianos is just 5 mins away from Playa de las Americas.

With an all year climate temperatures in May to October, can reach 30 degrees and in the winter a gentle but pleasant 18 degrees. General retail prices are cheaper than the UK especially cigarettes and alcohol.
Use a high factor sun cream, sun hat and take something to cover up with. You can burn in ten minutes popping out...

Advantages: Sunny, Lots to do, Nightlife Disadvantages: The airport
...and the cliffs overlooking the town (some 1km high). There are not many places to stay here but the Poblado Marineros Apartments on the Marina are very nice and there is a very well maintained public pool on the sea front. There are some nice places to eat and a couple of shops.
If you want to explore Tenerife then my recommendation would be to stay here, hire a car and go exploring.
Things to do...
Mount Teide is magnificent and you can get a cable car to the peak for some breath taking views (if there are no clouds).
Boat trips are in abundance but most of the decent ones operate out of Los Gigantes. You can see dolphins and whales on most trips.
The Parrot Park (I forget what it is called in Spanish) is a fantastic day out. There are plenty of animal entertainments and a nice botanical garden.
Puerto de la Cruz - To me it seems a bit...
