Advantages: Scenic route Disadvantages: very infrequent service
...The Middlesborough to Whitby Esk valley railway run by Northern Spirit railways needs more trains !.
At present there are only four weekday trains each way along the route and Northern Spirit should be increasing this by now .
It has been like this for ten years and they don't seem to be bothered about putting on an early morning train from Whitby to Middlesborough to get people to work .
The earliest you can get into Middlesborough from the East coast resort of Whitby at the moment is 1016 am .
What use is that if you start your job at 9.00am ?
It's the only rail line I am aware of that can't get you to the end of the line before 9 am.
Come on Northern Spirit it's 2000 now and the service ain't good enough ....

SAAS FEE
From Geneva, the train takes you around the lake, through the Rhone valley and to Visp. From Visp a postbus takes you on a rather scary journey to Saas Fee! Saas Fee is a real Alpineresort, beware that we experienced a frost one morning in the resort in the middle of summer!
Allalin 4000m- 3500m, highest revolving restaurant in the world, beautiful views over the high mountains and a chance to have a snowball fight. Again, choose a clear day.
Kreuzboden 2500m- get a cable car to Kreuzboden where there is a lake with a backdrop of Allalin and the Dom 4545m. A range of walking possibilities and the chance to get another cable car to a higher level.
Aletsch Glacier - find your way to Brig where there is a bus and cablecar to Belalp. This is away from...

Advantages: Very Close to Melbourne, Arguably the Best Ski Resort in OZ Disadvantages: Unreliable Snow At Times
...The only Australian resort to regularly host a Winter World Cup event, Mt. Buller (1804m) is located 250km north-east of Melbourne and forms part of Australia's most beautiful Alpine Range. It is the most popular ski resort in Victoria.
HISTORY: Like other Australian resorts before it, the fledgling village at Buller was originally founded, in part, by the Austrian and Polish migrants who first began to ski in the region in the 1940's. The Ski Club of Victoria built its first hut on the mountain by 1933, and other small clubs, such as the University Ski Club, founded at Melbourne University in the twenties, soon followed. The very existence of 'Buller' today owes much to the hard work and dedication of these early pioneers, many of whom had to scale the mountain on foot, with their supplies and building materials on their backs...

The first blockbuster of the summer is a loose retelling of the epic poem 'The Iliad'. The tale is one of love, honour and patriotism; but mostly of warfare. The young Trojan Princes Paris (Orlando Bloom) and Hector (Eric Bana) are on a diplomatic... more
