Advantages: Things to see, Things to do, The women Disadvantages: Beer not cheap!, Vodka not cheap!, None!
I guess Gothenburg might not seem like the ideal weekend destination for a trip with the lad's but let me reassure you it would be one to remember. Now I have to be honest here, as I am a bit of a Jackal and Hyde character when it comes to weekend trips away. Yep I like to have more than a few drinks but I also like to have a good look around at what attractions my resident city has. Anyway let me first run you through how you can get to this fine city. First off you can go by ferry from Newcastle or you can fly. We did the latter. My advice is try and get the cheapest flight possible and then just have a go at knocking some money off at Priceline (www.priceline.co.uk) - it worked for us. Anyway what to see and do and drink. Advantages: smallish, friendly and nice Disadvantages: I have noticed a rise in violent crime
expensive hotels in the town centre, but there are also cheaper ones as well as youth hostels in the area and a few very good camp sites for caravans and tents.
There are several interesting places to go in the town centre. Apart from the places already mentioned there is a good Museum of Art, a new Opera House, the Concert Hall, home of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the market stalls at Saluhallen and a daily fish market for seafood lovers, Feskekyrkan. There are many pubs, clubs, cinemas and concert halls (most touring bands coming to Seden play in Stockholm as well as in Gothenburg). In the harbour there is an old fort, AlvsborgsFastning, that you can go to by boat from Lilla Brommen. It was built in the 17th century when it was feared that the Danes would attack, later it was used as a prison. It is an interesting place to go ...
