A walk above the shores

Advantages: Spectacular coastline, with attractive towns and good walking
Disadvantages: A tourist trap, albeit a superior one

...just done, reminds me of the Amalfi Coast. Or, more specifically, of a walking holiday that my wife and I took there a few years ago, organised by that company, which may serve as an example both their holidays and of the attractions of the area itself. It is not a destination we would normally have chosen for walking, an activity best enjoyed in mountain areas far from the madding crowd. The Amalfi Coast, although commendably hilly, is populous ...
...to do besides walking if the weather proved adverse. In the event, we coincided with a freak cold spell and were even snowed on – south of Naples in April! – but that was just luck of the meteorological draw, and we decided to spend most of our time walking irrespective of the temperature. Where exactly is the Amalfi Coast? In southern Italy, facing out over the Tyrrhenian Sea. Lay your right hand flat on a piece of paper, index finger pointing ...

Lido De Jesolo

Advantages: Its safe, fun and very family friendly
Disadvantages: More expensive due to a weak pound currently .

...Here are our thoughts on Lido De Jesolo: It has been and in some respects rightly called the Blackpool of the Adriatic. I can see why people would say that. Its a family resort primarily and has lots of shops and local traders all plying for your euros. There however the similarity ends. Jesolo is wonderful. Its clean, vibrant, hospitable and family orientated. Without doubt the place to go with a young family if you want a bit on sun, sand and ...
...teh main road where you can enjoy hours of fun with the children. I can not reccomend Lido De Jesolo enough. Its fantastic. Its more expensive due to the ponud at the moment but, if you want a safe, fun and secure family holiday this is the place. ...

The Amalfi Coast -----Is this the best scenic route in Europe???

Advantages: Breathtakingly beautiful.
Disadvantages: The road is not one for the feint of heart

...my most memorable holidays was the two weeks I spent in the Bay of Naples. We fitted so much in to the 14 days we were there, it was an incredible holiday. We visited the fantastic Pompeii ( a must do experience worthy of a review of its own), we climbed to the top of Vesuvius, we visited Herculaneum, Capri, Sorrento, Naples and had an incredible couch journey around the Amalfi Coast. It is the Amalfi Coast that I am going to write this review about ...
...- absolutley stunning, in fact the Amalfi Coast is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The scenery along the coast makes you feel as if you are in the middle of a holiday post card - it does literally take your breath away - it is, from what I have seen, the most spectacular road in Europe. Tha Amalfi Coast ( la Costiera Amalfitana) in Campania, is on the Sorrento peninsula south of the Bay of Naples, it runs for 50 kilometres from Positano ...

The most beautiful place in the world

Advantages: Beautiful, Italian, romantic
Disadvantages: Very narrow roads and very hilly

The Amalfi coast is possibly one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world. We got engaged there, in Ravello, so it obviously holds a very special place in my heart. There are several towns which are beautiful to stay in. We were based in Positano which is split into 2 areas by a deep ravine. All hotels are ont eh cliff face with fantastic views out to sea. Positano can get a bit touristy in high season so I would recomend going in Spring ...
...of very special hotels if your budget allows. Otherwise there are plenty of excellent guest houses which are clean and comfortable. Amalfi itself is an historically interesting town and well worth a visit. As is Ravello on the top of the hills, famous for Wagner stories and wonderful outside concerts. ...

The Italian Job

Advantages: The most beautiful place in the world?
Disadvantages: You're going to have to wade through this novel to find out why

...requests to transfer funds to the UK. He invited me to come with him and tour the Amalfi coast at the same time. We flew to Naples (you can fly BA, Alitalia, Lufthansa, Swissair, Iberia, AirFrance, BMI, Easyjet - the list is endless) and picked up a hire car. If you do the same, lock your boot - a favourite way to rip off tourists at the moment is to bang another car into a hire car (conspicuous by being the only cars on the road without bumps and ...
...and out of lanes is the norm; don't stop at red lights if there's nothing coming; don't stop at zebra crossings unless a pedestrian is right in front of you; a few bumps and scratches are an everyday occurrence. Car hire is expensive in Italy too, if you're brave enough, pre-book with an international agency. The alternative is a train with four routes from Naples to Sorrento, Pompeii/Poggiomarino, Ottaviano/Sarno, Nola/Biano. The train runs from ...
