I stayed at the amathus beach hotel a couple of years ago, and have to say that it really is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.
The grounds and the hotel are beautiful. It has a seafront location and the staff could not do more to help you.
There was also a fun game we played called- spot the celebrity. There seemed to be quite a few c-listers about (your eastenders/ coronation street actors etc.) It was fun working out who these people were (they look very different without make up).
The rooms were beautiful and the indoor pool with it's marble pillars and streaming sunlight coming through the roof, are spectacular. The restaurants are magnificent too. The gym has everything you could possibly want in it (and is fully air conditioned as you would expect).
All in all- a fantastic holiday. I have heard the the limassol amathus is far superior to the pahos amathus- although cannot comment myself although I believe prices are similar. I prefer Paphos as a town though.
I was not so impressed with Limassol as a town, and prefer Paphos by far. It seems very built up, with just a main road. However, if you stay at the amathus in Limossol you will be hard-pushed to get out of the luxury and explore beyond it's walls. There are a mix of people staying at the hotel and few english people. There are quite a few German and Russian tourists (hence the fur coat shops for the Russians in limossol) so you might be in a minority at times being English. We certainly didn't mind though.
Costs are approx £1180 bed and breakfast for 10 nights for 2 people staying in an inland deluxe room room. Obviously food etc. and flights are on top of this.
In life- you pay for what you get. This is an elegant, sophisticated hotel, with a name badge and price to match. We returned to Cyprus a year later but did stay at a cheaper alternative in Paphos. If you can afford it though- this is an excellent hotel.

Nice easy to read and helpful Hotel review there, I found Limassol to be a bit of a dump, when we stayed there a few years ago, and like you much preffered Paphos too.......Roy....

Advantages: ONE OF THE TOP HOTELS IN THE WORLD, SO HIGHER THAN AVERAGE SERVICE, CLOSE TO SEA . Disadvantages: MAYBE ONLY THAT IT IS A BUS OR TAXI JOURNEY FROM THE MAIN TOWN OF LIMASSOL
