...friends, we stumbled upon the Heineken Experience. Being keen to experience the Heineken history, we decided to take a look inside. This is a large, square brick like building, with Heineken Experience displayed on the outside. It is nestled amongst other buildings close to the main tram line and road. There is a river flowing outside the building. Inside: On entry to the Heineken Experience, you are greeted by a Heineken personel who gives you ...

Show me the way to Schipol Airport...

Advantages: Superb facilities, Generally friendly, Only one terminal
Disadvantages: It seems to go on for miles, Some prices are horrific!

I was lucky enough to spend 6 hours at Schipol airport when I was coming back from Amsterdam, although this was due to my own mistake in getting the return flight time mixed up, I certainly wasn't left unhappy. The first thing you notice about the airport when you get there is the layout. It seems to be laid out so well, with you being able to walk straight off of the trains and into the airport. Unlike the journey over, where you have to get the ...
...The airport is also deceptively big. You may think it is small when you arrive, but you just need to wait until you find that your departure gate is a 20 minute walk away from the main terminal area. Going through the airport in stages... I found the security to be fairly heavy-handed although they did have a sense of humour. I've never been asked to take my belt and shoes off before when being paraded through the X-Ray machine with my luggage. ...

Book online and skip the long queue

Advantages: Excellent value, historical interest, well planned
Disadvantages: Poor disabled access, long queue if not booked online

A must-see in Amsterdam. It was very moving, and sobering to understand what the families in hiding went through before meeting their terrible fates. The museum is well planned, and you walk through from room to room, sometimes up very steep steps, so this might not be suitable for the very elderly or disabled. We spent around 45 minutes there, and did not rush, but walked slowly through each room, reading the various displays and bits of information. ...
...queue when we arrived at 9.45am was already long, and by the time we left it was considerably longer still, wrapping round the building. The best tip we can give is to book your tickets on the official web site. You have to choose your specific day and time (within hourly time slots), but with a bit of forward thinking this should not be a problem. By booking your tickets in advance, you skip past the whole queue, and enter straight in via a separate ...

Boom, Boom, shake the room.

Advantages: Funny, great night out, good food.
Disadvantages: None.

...offer, many friends had recommended Boom Chigao so we thought we would give it a go. Boom Chicago is a comedy club essentialy, on Leidesplain, which is in the heart of the nightlife and restaurant area, quite near to other attractions such as the Alto Jazz cafe. Very easy to get to by tram, or by foot. Entry is 24 Euro on it's own, or for 36 Euro you get entry plus a meal, though there are some supplements for the more expensive dishes such as Sea ...
...from walnuts. I digress. Boom Chicago is run by an American/Canadian/Dutch comedy/acting/singing collective which set up shop in 1993. The shows are performed in English, and the performers make quite a joke of the fact that they are American, performing in English, in Amsterdam, and make a few Dutch jokes too. The show we saw was 'Me, my space' and ipod' which was a kind of parody of modern life and had various 'acts' which were very different, ...

Sex, pics and video tape.

Advantages: informative, interactive, and not seedy
Disadvantages: not for the fainthearted of for younger people

...told by friends that the Sex Museum, located on the Damrak, only 250m away from the Centraal Station was worth a visit, as there were etchings that looked similar to works by Beardsley, I duly headed to the museum. The first thing to confront me was the fact that there was a steady throng of visitors, from the puerile gaggle of guys on stag nights, the bemused Japanese tourists, who were posing for photos next to a flasher exhibit, and the broadminded ...
...and seeks to track the sex industry from a factual point of view rather than being a collection of old pornography. Various topics are dealt with – prostitution, voyeurism, erotica in antiquity, literature, the use of media to spread pornography, although in this instance there is no reference to the use of the Internet for the propagation of pornography. Part of the exhibition contains a number of artefacts from bygone eras – for example there ...
