The perfect city pass
Advantages: see review Disadvantages: see review
****I amsterdam Card**** I am always looking for ways to save money and this applies on holidays as well so when i saw that you could get a city pass for a set price i decided to buy it. The pass can be ordered online at http://www.iamsterdam.com/ as well as other sites such as expedia.com(where i got it).It can then either be sent to you or you can pick it up either at the airport or at the tourist information centre which is outside the central ... ...24 hours,48 or 72 hours. I don't think they vary in what they offer, just how long they last for. I got the 72 hour pass and this cost 58euros. With the pass (plastic card) you get a book which is split into sections. You have a list of whats free to get into, places that have 25% discount(including restaurants) and things that are free. Obviously the savings you get depends on what you do but i took advantage of the following: 72 hour public transport ...

Church or museum? Not sure!
Advantages: Nice outside, location Disadvantages: Not what I expected, not really a church anymore!
...love old churches so the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) was high on my list. I was very disappointed by my visit as the church fabric was mostly covered up by an exibition. Read on...
HISTORY:
Despite being called the 'New' Church, the church was actually built in the 15th century (although it has been extensively rebuilt due to fire). The building is mainly Gothic. From the early 19th century the Nieuwe Kerk began to overtake the Oude Kerk (Old Church) ... ...the I Amsterdam Card, the Nieuwe Kerk is included on this and it is well worth investing in if you plan to do a bit of sightseeing. If you fancy a guided tour then cash in some bonds before you go - its 90 Euros for up to 15 people but seems to be the same price even if its just you! It also has to be booked in advance.
The website claims that all areas of the galleries and facilities are fully accessible for disabled people. I beg to differ. The ...

All the worlds a stage, come and see the show...
Advantages: Great for children, you get a lot for your money, unforgettable Disadvantages: Takes a full day, tiring
...zoos in the world.
Artis Zoo was founded in 1838 to promote natural history in a way accessible to the general public rather than just scholars and professors. Found on Plantage Kerklaan, the zoo can be reached either by bus, by canal, by bike (as is the fashion in Amsterdam) or as our hotel was nearby, by foot. There is a carpark but it is not particularly big and anyway, who wants to drive on holiday?
The entrance is flanked by two large golden ... ...elms and oaks though. At Artis there are over 200 different types of trees, not all Dutch either. The Japanese nut tree has survived for 180 million years and is normally planted next to temples in Asia, which is quite fitting considering the ones you will find in Artis have been planted next to a statue of Buddha in the Japanese Stone Garden. When we went here we saw a small cluster of people drawing, so perhaps this is a place people come for artistic ...

Flowermarket Amsterdam
Advantages: Many beautifull plants, bulbs and flowers and all colours Disadvantages: Some shops are closed in winter
The Amsterdam Flowermarket located in the city center provides both locals and tourist of colour. 15 different stalls sell fresh flowers, indoorplants, plants for the garden or balcony and in the season flowerbulbs.
Allthough some stalls sell mainly souvenirs now, the Flowermarket is still the place in Amsterdam to go for flowers or plants.
There seems to be a lot of competition between the vendors so you can get good deals on flowerbulbs (from ... ...the Flowermarket is the place to buy a Christmass tree in Amsterdam. In January and February this market is not very colourfull. Some stalls are closed then and buisiness is low so there is not much to buy.
Openinghours are: Mon-Sat 9.00 - 17.30 Sun 11.00 - 17.30 ...

See Amsterdam of the past centuries
Advantages: Easy for seeing everything Disadvantages: Nothing special
Sutiated in the center of Amsterdam, maybe this place corresponds exactly to the idea of city museum. The entrance fee is only 5 EUR. It is good price, compared to Madamе Tussauds Museum - 15 EUR or Rijksmuseum - 10 EUR.
The exhibition is permanent and includs a wide variety of objects - from old fishing boats to paintings. Everything that shows the life in Amsterdam in the past - customs, way of life, traditions, celebrations, clothes, furnature. ...
