Good hotel for the price.
Advantages: Good hotel, central location Disadvantages: expensive for food
My wife and I stayed here in July 2006, we had 4 nights here booked seperatley with a KLM flight. And yes were were having a kiddless adult break.
I would NOT recommend anyone really to take their kids to Amsterdam although there were plenty out and around in the town.
The hotels location is great, being very central, just over the road from the central train station. (We got off the plane at Schipol and on to the train within the airport straight ... ...* official standard and it really is. The reception is well laid out, plush and nice staff. The bar is very close to the reception adjoining the restaurant. The bar was really nice. A low bar with small sunken seats. Again the staff were really nice and made you very welcome.
The rooms were typical of 4* standard. They do not disapoint. Well laid out rooms (Mini bar is expensive, but hey your on ya hols) Tv with really good porn channel!! (You have ...

Expensive and not very nice
Advantages: very well located Disadvantages: fucking expensive
Close to the famous Leidse Plein (the middle of the touristic night life) you find near to one of these douzends of riverarms the Dikkers en Thijs-Hotel. It's about 90 Pounds a night but don't expect a first class accomodation. Due to the poor capacity of hotels they can ask for prices which are out of this world. Your room will be not too big (to be friendly) and furniture does not give the impression of a modern styled hotel. The best message beforehand: ... ...or less). The toilets are separeted but your teeth has to be cleaned at the floor. Furthermore there is a little table in your room with two chairs an a small TV. Breakfast is available but nothing special. The real big advantage of this accomodation is their fantastic location.
Almost every Tram goes through Leidse Plein and brings you in a short time to every place you want to go in AMS, and also to the main station. According to less other opportunities ...

BILDERBERG HOTEL JAN LUYKEN, AMSTERDAM - A1 !!!
Advantages: Location Disadvantages: None that I could see
...lets start.
**********LOCATION**********
The Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken is very good for those who like a more cultural aspect. It is located near the museums and is in the South neighborhood in Amsterdam. This area is the heart of cultural Amsterdam, all the important museums are basically a stone's throw away. Opposite the hotel you will find the Rijks museum and the Van Gogh Museum and virtually on the doorstep are the famous P.C. Hooftstraat, ... ...shuttle-bus, it stops outside the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken.
**********ACCOMMODATION************
This is not a huge hotel and is more a town house hotel, built in the late 19th-century architectural style. It only has 62 rooms in it although personally I prefer this size of a hotel as I find it more personal and friendly, but obviously this is only a personal preference. In the room you get air conditioning ( a major must in the summer), tea ...

Watch the world go by from your hotel
Advantages: smart, good value and centrally placed Disadvantages: beds too soft and towels too small
...hotel. We booked into the NH Caranza hotel for 5 nights, a standard double room for £271 (for both of us!) We couldn’t believe our luck. But we had never been there before so we were not sure what the hotel would be like.
The Caranza is part of a group of the ‘NH’ hotels in Amsterdam, there are about five in total and they range from 3* to 5*. Ours was a 4* so we were excited to be in a bit of luxury – usually we they and save our money and stay ... ...a lively square full of cafes and coffee shops. We deliberately asked for a room at the back of the hotel, as we didn’t want to be disturbed by noise at night. It’s very easy to get there from the train station (where you arrive at after taking a short train ride from the airport). You just hop on a number 9, 14 or 16 tram and there is a tram stop right outside the hotel.
On entry, a long shaped lobby greets you, which is decked with smart Xmas ...

AWFUL PLACE. Terribly rude staff. Stay away.
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Unclean apartments. Disrespectful and rude staff. Overpriced.
The service at this place was some of the worst i've ever seen. The staff neglected to mention that the hallway doors lock from the inside, so when i left without a key I was trapped in the hallway for half an hour. After waiting for some time in a hot and poorly ventilated stairwell (as well as knocking on the only two doors available) I began banging on the walls to try to get someone's attention in the office next door. When the manager finally ... ...to get mad at me for making noise! He was exceedingly rude and pompous, saying that I should have waited even longer for the next person to come by, as if I didn't have anything better to do than sit in a stairwell on my vacation. I had no phone service(American phone), and no one coming back any time soon, so I had absolutely no other recourse in the situation than to call for help. The staff should have been apologetic since this was THEIR fault ...
