Good hotel for a good rate, a bit out of town but accessible Advantages: rooms and no compulsorey 3 night stays, availability, good rates Disadvantages: location This hotel is inbetween the airport and Amsterdam town centre, easily accesible by bus and metro from the town centre. Has a nice foyer and dining room. Have stayed here twice on return from some exotic location at ungoldy hours of the morning. Unlike hotels in the centre, it is in a quiet residential area, and has 24 hour reception which is good for its price too. I normally take a taxi there from the airport. You'll be surprised what get for your Money! Advantages: Location, Architecture & Frienly Staff Disadvantages: None ...nineteenth century buidings house the Rembrandt Residence Hotel, a glorious retreat from the bustling city of Amsterdam. This hotel modestly claims two stars and while the rooms are basic, they are clean and comfortably furnished and in my opinion this hotel could easily be three star property. The location is excellent, idealy situated between the Herengracht and the Singel canals, near Dam square and approximately ten minutes from the Central Train ... ...to almost floor windows adorned with heavy curtains that make the room incredibly cosy for those who need to block out the light! The windows open and are kept in place with a wooden batton, I initially found this difficult as the windows are heavy! Ask for a room on the canal if you want to watch people going past or see the lights and moon shining on the water though I presume this could be noiser in the busy season. How the other half live! Advantages: Affordable luxury, great hotel. Disadvantages: Looking a bit dated. ...a nice trip. Hotel Bilderberg Garden is about 2 and a half miles (if you know your way) from the heart of Amsterdam, in the district called the Old South. This is quite a 'well heeled' area and has some fantastic, if expensive shopping areas and resturaunts, as well as some nice archtiecture. Trams (number 5) go straight into town, though we walk everywhere; twenty minutes walking gets one to the Rjiks museum, 35-40 minutes, into KalvertStraat (centre). ... ...fantastic deal, with buffet breakfast and ferry tickets via Hull (we live in Yorkshire) for around £700, bearing in mind that the cheapest rooms are normally around £70 per person, per night, and breakfast is 19 Euro per person. There was only 29 people in the hotel on xmas day, fab. Linda Hotel - Basic but comfortable Advantages: Cheap, clean, friendly staff, comfortable beds Disadvantages: Lots of stairs, quite far out, basic ...main reason for choosing this hotel was because of the price. In early January 2008, I paid £87 for 2 nights bed and breakfast, for 2 in a double room- BARGAIN! But, do not stay here if you do not like climbing stairs. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The building itself from the outside, is OK.. It's quite a pretty, typical dutch canal house. When I first pulled up in the taxi, I was a little disappointed because the canal it is situated on is not the prettiest, ... ...suppose. THE LOCATION: The hotel is quite far out from everything (but just around the corner from the Heineken museum). If you enjoy exploring on foot and don't mind walking, then it is actually a very nice walk into the centre. You literally cross the street, and walk straight! If you have a map, it is so easy to get everywhere on foot in Amsterdam. The hotel is also very close to tram number 4, which takes you into town. Studio 14 B&B is the friendliest experience ever. Advantages: Close to attractions and night life Disadvantages: didn't have a kettle in room This is the best place to stay, especially if you are going on a hen or stag weekend like my girls did. We had a laugh from the beginning of our stay and didn't want to leave. The staff are very friendly and up for a laugh too. The staff were willing to help with anything we asked for especially with the heavy bags. The hotel is very close to the main attractions and all transport.
