Also there's a Mcdonalds, plenty of all-you-can-eat buffets, and Dennys etc.

It's about a 1 hours drive from LAX, well that's how long it takes us. We seem to get lost everytime, and this time we got pulled up by the L.A.P.D for being in a rough area. We didn't even know where we had ended up, it was nice for the cops to be so concerned!! After 15 minutes of questioning we set off in the direction of our hotel, hopefully. We were staying at the Castle Inn and Suites, which I will write about when Ciao put a category there. It's on South Harbor Boulevard, which goes on for miles and this is like International Drive in Florida, if you know it.
Along Harbor Boulevard, is the entrance to Disneyland,and the new Californa Adventure park. This is the place to stay, you have plenty of motels, hotels and restaurants galore. Three I can recommend are, The Castle Inn, very spacious rooms at a decent price, Anaheim Plaza, now called Anaheim Vagabond, my parents stayed there, it's next door to the Castle Inn, and also I have stayed at The Jolly Roger.
There is a great diner/restaurant along Harbor, called Millies, one of the waitresses always remembers me and my hubbie for some reason. Also there's a Mcdonalds, plenty of all-you-can-eat buffets, and Dennys etc.
I must warn you, that prices now are on a par with GB, but when I went two years ago, it was half the price. Still you get a large portion with whatever you order, and free refills of coffee or coke until you end up covering up the cup with your hand, saying "Please no more".
If you want to go to Disney, there are usually free shuttle buses to the entrance, as even though it's only across the road from Anaheim Plaza etc, it can be deceiving and be a lot further. Remember how large these parks are, the entrance starts by showing a sign for the park, then the actual entrance can be another 10 minutes walk. Once you get to the car park, there is a little train to take you to the entrance, all free of course.
This time, we visited Disney's Downtown, this is a new shopping/entertainment complex. You can get to it from Disney by walking, but I think it's only open at night, and they wo'nt let you park in Disneys carpark, so we had to go down Katella Avenue, which was around the corner from harbor and drive about 5 mins before we saw their own car park. Here was a great place,it was smaller than Orlandos Downtown, but somewhere different to go at night. The shops shut at 10.0clock when we were there. We went for an expensive meal at The House of Blues, Hall and Oates were on that night, in another part of the building. There are loads of places to eat out, great shops and most of all, when we went , it was quiet.
We did visit one or two shopping centres, for example, you can go to Anaheim Market Place on a free shuttle. All you do is phone them, your hotel are quite willing to do this for you, and they will send out a minibus to collect you for free. All you need to do is tip the driver a dollar or so. The market is an indoor market, with hundreds of stalls. They range from Disney products, collectable dolls, electrical products and C.D's. There are also plenty of places to grab a snack. My mum had a coffee and a lovely cake for 60p. There were places where you could get Mexican and Chinese food. A lot of these markets are run by Chinese and Mexicans, you can always barter with them. They seem to like it.
The Block, is another shopping centre. It was an outdoor centre with hundreds of shops and places to eat. Be warned though if you go at night, it took us almost 30 mins to get a parking space. We had to wait until somebody returned for their car, then punced on them for the space. We had a meal at Wolfgang Pucks, whish was very nice, if not a bit expensive. There were plenty of fish restaurants, and Pizzarieres. The shops were great, some of them quite unusual. There was also a Cinema Complex which stayed open very late.
I would definetly recommend staying at Anaheim, I felt it was a safe place to stay for all the family. It was lively at night without being too packed.
Millies was the busiest place, but once registering your name , they seem to get back to you very quickly. After all, the Americans don't do things by halves do they?
Last but not least, get yourself a good map, if driving yourself. My mum and dad took a taxi and it cost them $70 dollars for one way.
Advantages: Close to disney,tourist friendly Disadvantages: well spaced out,Car definately required
...for A Motel/Hotel in the Anaheim Area {30 miles south of LA}
After a long flight from the UK I would recommend an overnight stop near Los Angeles airport for the first night [hotels from about 30 pound per room per night} this review is based on a family holiday 2 adults 2 children 8,15 so you will not find any real nighlife info here.
Travelling down to Anaheim is a doddle,finding your accomodation unless it is on the same road {Harbor Boulevard}
... ...good Anaheim Guide.
I will recommend the Candycane Inn next door to Disneyland
if you want to be close to the action,excellent Motel,large rooms,
good size pool and spa,plus a free comprehensive breakfast
Not bad for 95 dollars a night.{per room}
Anyway I digress Anaheim itself if it was'nt for Disney would not really be worth visiting as its just not a lot there.Don't misunderstand its all vey nice but apart from the Crystal Cathedral and good ...

Advantages: Anaheim is close to all the major theme parks Disadvantages: Roads are very confusing for those driving in the area.
I have just returned from Anaheim and the highlight of my stay there was my visit to Disneyland. This is the original Disney theme park and is celebrating 45 years. The park itself is very similiar to both Orlando and Paris but the queues are much shorter. I visted on 4th July which was a public holiday and I feared the queues would be very long but to my surprise and delight the longest queue I had to stand in was 30 minutes. The whole Anaheim area ... ...is another park in the Anaheim area which shouldn't be missed. It was the first theme park in America and is this year celebrating 50 years of Snoopy.
The highlights for me were the Snoopy on Ice show and the Laser spectular.There are also a lot of white knuckle rides which looked far too scary for me to tackle.This park is about 10 minutes from Disney and is easily accessible by bus for those who don't want to drive.Alternatively there is a large ...

Advantages: Disney Disadvantages: Not a very nice place
If your are staying in Anaheim the chances are you are visting Disney. If so the make sure that you hire a car and get out of the area. Its not very nice. It pretty much caters to the Disney traffic and although the area is not nice I did not see much criminal activity. There is a reasonable amount of shopping here, as anywhere, and a couple of reasonable malls. There is a cinema a few miles to the south. This is the perfect place for accessing the ... ...(relativeley) run down to San Diego.
Now I'm not a fan of LA, but of all the places and things to do, Disney has to be at the top of th list, there is not a lot else in the city of angels. It is magical and right in the heart of Anaheim. It is not as big as the Florida version but is still very impresive. I would not recommend spending more than a week here, as Disney passes run for 5 days and that is enough with a couple of das either end for visiting ...

Advantages: Brilliant for a Halloween trip Disadvantages: Never go anywhere on your own at night - not even to the car park - or the front door!
Anaheim is on the outskirts of Los Angeles and is the place where.... DISNEYLAND is ... Yes! As I shook hands with Goofy, and then opened Roger Rabbits door (that really does shock you!), that's when reality goes flying out the window and welcome to the world of make believe!
Needless to say that Dineyland was awesome!
Anaheim is alright, just really because Disneyland is there. I last was in Anaheim for Halloween, and as I was sitting in a cafe ... ...had said that the first 100 people to come dressed up in Halloween costume were allowed in free... so as you can imagine there were witches, frankensteins, ghosts.. all with really wicked costumes walking down the road enroute to Disneyland!
Great!
(They must've really gotten changes quick!)
PS: IF YOU ARE GOING TO AMERICA FOR THE FIRST TIME DO NOT FORGET THAT THE PRICE ON THE PACKET IS NOT WHAT YOU PAY! YOU HAVE TO ADD TO YOUR TAX TO IT! ...

Advantages: Close proximity to Disneyland Disadvantages: Because of this much further away from everything else
...family chose to stay in Anaheim as part of our trip to California as they believed that this was the best place to stay for families. And having stayed there that is exactly who I would recommend visit here. Anaheim is about 2 hours drive away From the main city of Los Angeles. This journey time would be much less if the traffic wasn't as bad! Its worse than the M25!
MOst of the hotels in this area are based along main streets. Istayed at the Holiday ... ...on our holiday was 13). Anaheim is great for young families because of Disneyland and KNotts Landing, and San Diego Seaworld is closer from Anaheim than Los Angeles.
I would recommend young families stay in Anaheim, as they are less likely to want to vist Los Angeles more than once and their holiday will center mainly on the theme parks. For others, although Anaheim has alot to offer, it is better to stay closer to Los Angeles to save the journey ...

This hotel is very magical as it is situated right next door to Disneyland California and Disney?s California Adventure Park.
Not only is it within great reach of these two Parks but it is in the heart of Orange Country and it is in a good situation to see Los Angeles and its fine beaches and attractions. It is also conveniently close to Los Angeles Airport.
