It was all Greek to me.

Advantages: Good food, prices, atmosphere
Disadvantages: Could do with more fish on the menu

I was less than impressed a few weeks ago when my son told me that he and his partner had been for a meal at Steki. I remember Steki from ten years ago as a take-out Greek food place that I would have put on a par with Ken's Kebabs. I also remember once having a nasty stomach upset after eating a take-away from Steki. I had vowed never to return. Steki, however, has undergone a complete transformation and is now a very popular eat-in restaurant. It was just after 6pm on a sunny Saturday evening when we were deciding where to go to eat. Osborne Road in Southsea is refered to by the local paper's restaurant reviewer as 'Restaurant Row', and there are still a good few establishments that I haven't tried. People were jostling to look at the menu in Steki's window, and we decided we would go in and see if we could get a table. It certainly ...

The authentic Greek Taverna experience in Derby

Advantages: A little piece of Greece in Derby to remind you of holidays
Disadvantages: Makes me want to go on holiday when I've visited!

If you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine in pleasant surroundings look no further. Run by Andreas - who is originally from Cyprus - and Shirley Economides, Stelianas and Saphos (named after the couples two daughters) is the place to go to capture the spirit of Greece and fill up on the delicious foods and wines that you tasted on your holidays. Derby Evening Telegraph called it a "Greek Secret in the heart of the city" when their undercover reporters tried the food on offer in January 2006. The restaurant moved from its Blackmiths Yard location early in 2005 and is now located in a beautiful Georgian building on the busy London Road with nearby on-street parking (free after 6pm) and a close by public car park . It is decorated in a tasteful blue and white, evocative of Greek villages with their white houses and blue ...

Review of Steliana's and Sapho's Greek Taverna

A Greek Taverna Where Time Stands Still.

Advantages: Delicous food- blending Greek and English influences toether with skill and love.
Disadvantages: None at all.

Last month my husband reached the milestone age of 50. Having been together now for 32 years we have seen and been through a lot together, and so for his special birthday I took him to the Greek island of Kefalonia. The choice of island was because as teenagers and newly weds we used to travel through the Greek islands together visiting remote places, and this continued until our children were born, when the practicalities and expenses put an end to these expeditions for a few years. We decided to choose an island we had never been to before and Kefalonia seemed like the perfect choice. Only 3 hours from the UK by plane, an unspoilt island with an eventful history, including earthquake and war, lies in the shadows of Zante, quietly resting in the aftermath of a past full of turmoil. In 1953 the island was almost completely ...
