The Anchor Guest House is situated in the city centre. From Dublin Airport, travel on the 747 (Easily caught from outside the airport exit, well signposted and regular) Stay on the bus until Dublin Bus Station, the Anchor Guest House is situated in Lower Gardiner Street which is just round the corner from the bus station.
The Guest House is a town house with a new extension on the back. There are a few steps to go up and I have not seen a ramp. From the entrance hall, up about 10 stairs you walk through a sitting room to the extension which has a lift.
The rooms are all well presented, clean and tidy with Television and en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. A tea tray will be put in the room for an extra small payment and will be filled up everyday.
We have only stayed in twin rooms, but they will let them to a single person for a supplement, family and double rooms are available.
Prices start from approx. £19 in low season (including breakfast) There is a full price list on the internet, with an enquiry and booking service. Their web address is: www.anchorguesthouse.com
When booking they take your credit card details, no deposit is taken, unless you do not turn up, then it is deducted from your card.
They answer any questions quickly, booking is very easy through their booking page, just fill in the rooms, dates you require and they email back the same day or at the lastest the next day with availability.
All keys have to be left at reception when going out, there is a box provided to put them in. The front door is locked for security, but someone lets you in when you ring the bell. I don't think there is a time to be in because they have a night porter.
The rooms are non-smoking but there is a sitting room for smokers with a television and book shelves, books can be borrowed by guests or swapped for one of your own.
There is a nice dining room, breakfast is from 8am until 10 am. There is a choice of:
Cereal and on the tables is orange juice.
Then you can have: egg, bacon, black & white pudding, beans, sausage.
or any of the above in any combination you like. Or boiled eggs, scrambled eggs or beans on toast.
A toast basket is also provided with white toast and brown irish bread.
There is plenty of butter and jams and marmalades on the tables and tea & coffee is available.
There is a public telephone, central heating. There is limited car parking in the courtyard at the back by prior arrangement.

Advantages: good location and value for money Disadvantages: none really
...was really pleased with the Anchor guest house. It has some of the facilities and standards of a hotel, yet it's very affordable at guesthouse prices. I stayed in a room in the hotel extension at the rear of the hotel and it was basic but clean, quiet and a good size, with a comfortable bed.
Personally I think the location is excellent as it's only a couple of minutes walk from the main street (O'Connell Street) and the main pub/restaurant area ... ...till the early hours. The Anchor is on a much quieter street and is handy for the bus and train stations. They have a 24 hour reception which is a bonus and it's nicely decorated. I can't fault the breakfast (had the full Irish breakfast) which was tasty and the staff seemed friendly enough. Overall, an enjoyable stay. ...
