Anchorage Hotel & Dive Center, Roseau

Advantages: Awe inspiring, lots of history, friendly people
Disadvantages: Can get cold, sometimes noisy

...are staying in the downtown area you will find it quite easy to get around on foot in the immediate vicinity, but beware of icy pavements. For your first few walks out its advisable to overdress, you can always take off a layer or two if you get too warm. The main shopping area downtown is on 5th avenue, with the 5th avenue mall in the centre of it, it has the usual mix of shops with a food court at the top. For shopaholics The Dimond Center is a 30 minute bus ride away and is a much larger scale out of town shopping area. If you wish to take a look at Mt McKinley then you should walk along 5th avenue toward the Cook inlet, on a clear day you have a good view of the mountain in the distance and at this time of year it takes on a pinkish glow which is quite a sight. Advantages: Warm clear waters

...The highlight by far of my recent trip to Jamaica was the diving. We were staying in just outside Ocho Rios, and prior to arrival, I had contacted Resort Divers by email to arrange some dives. The shop is based in the Island Plaza in Ocho Rios, and the dive centre itself is based in the Shaw Park Hotel. We booked a package of 10 dives for a reasonable $25 a dive. All the diving was from a boat, and not a crowded cattle truck of a boat either. Small groups, and plenty of room to kit up. The sites themselves were really nice, very scenic with lots of shoals of small fish all over the reefs. Among the fish I recognised, were puffer fish, barracuda, large lobsters, really large crabs, spider crabs and the biggest sea cucumbers I have ever seen!!! ...to Barbados is the friendly people and the feeling that the resort or hotel they are staying in is part of the "neighbourhood". ......................................................................................... The West Coast ........................................................................................ Almost all the diving takes place on the calmer waters of the West Coast, due to the rough seas of the Atlantic pounding the East Coast in spectacular fashion. The beaches are beautiful white sand and the sea a deep turquoise, calm and very inviting. There are several dive shops offering guided dives and dive packages as well as training if you require it.
