Advantages: Cheap and cheerrful Disadvantages: non really
Having to travel to London quite often for business I am always on the look out for somewhere nearer to the office to stay that does not blow the travel budget allowance stated in our company travel policy and upon recommendation of a few other colleagues I thought I would give this one a try. Now I know the name of the hotel suggests its on LiverpoolStreet its not its just round the corner from LiverpoolStreet station in Harrow Place.
OK, how to I get there, well for me I was walking as not too far from the office having checked out the exact location on multi-map and the route to take which will take about 15 minutes I think providing I am not distracted by the shops along the way, this normally happens and it takes me ages to get to my hotel. For me I am walking from London Bridge and head off down Fenchurch Street into ...
Advantages: Location and cost Disadvantages: Not everyone likes Travelodge
Travelodge used to be a moderately priced, sedate brand that you could spot on or near motorways, catering for the family on their way to grandmas, or the business traveller saving a few pounds on the normal hotel rate.
Things have changed, and the brand now can be found in 316 locations with more coming along at the rate of about 20 per year.
Many are far from the motorways, and more of them, like the LiverpoolStreet one, are in City centres.
1 Location
++++++++
Location in London , may not seem all that critical to the occasional visitor. After all, you can always hop on a bus, or catch a nearby tube.
Having used other hotels in Vauxhall and Clapham, I have discovered it is not just as easy as that. Choose badly and you might have to wheel your Gucci look-alike case several hundred yards from the nearest public transport ...
Advantages: Different shops, unique, less crowded than Oxford St, near oxford circus tube, easy to get to Disadvantages: None
This review is way out of date, Carnaby Street has changed a lot over the past few yrs. Ignore it.
Introduction ~~
Carnaby Street, well it was once the place to go in the 60's and 70's but now it's a bit less well-known. Which I think is rather good as it is less-crowded than Oxford St, Covent Garden, Regent St, etc.
Location ~~
Carnaby Street could not be in a better location. It is just 3 or 4 minutes from Oxford Circus. tube station and is also within easy reach of Marlborough St and is no more than a 15 minutes walk from anywhere in Soho.
Shops ~~
The shops in Carnaby St. vary quite a lot from trendy fashion shops to the old cheap and tacky tourist shops. My favourite particular shop on Carnaby St. is the Mambo shop. If you haven't heard of Mambo they are a Australian surf/skate brand.
Well I did mention cheap ...
