About the hotel:
We stayed at the Andels Design Hotel, which is located just outside of the main city centre in an area called Andels, Prague 5. The hotel opened last year and consists of both regular hotel accommodations and apartments making it a good choice for both short and long stays.
The hotel room rate is around 150€ per night (£100), but if you shop around on the Internet, there are some good buys around, although I would avoid webreservations.com, as they didn't forward our booking to the hotel so we had no room or booking when we first got to the hotel despite have booked a room six months, although Andels was VERY helpful in sorting this out and we soon had a very nice room!! Check-I was therefore a bit traumatic but the reception staff are very polite, helpful and efficient and speak excellent English. Because of our additional stress we were also upgraded to the executive floor free of charge.
The rooms: The rooms all feature either one king-size or two double beds and are medium in size, and they are decorated in a modern fashion with beige carpets and white furniture. Rooms have an in-room safe, mini-bar and fridge, air conditioning, and international TV. We had a room on the fifth floor, the executive floor, which meant that we had tea and coffee making facilities and robes and towels. The room also featured a good working desk and comfy chair.
The bathroom was beautifully appointed with a large bath and separate shower cubicle, and the shower was fantastic, although it was easy to flood the bathroom floor. ..as I managed to do on several occasions! Overall the rooms were very nice and comfortable with good quality fittings and well-maintained and cleaned. The rooms are only small (boutique style you might call it!) but perfectly functional for a few days city break!
Each floor also has a complimentary coffee machine and seating area outside the lifts. A good security feature is that you need your room key to gain access to the lifts, and hence, accommodation floors. The hotel is in a quiet and safe neighbourhood, and the rooms are very quiet, allowing you to get a peaceful night's sleep! The staff is very helpful and polite, and they speak very good English. Check-in time starts after 3pm and check-out is at noon, although we got our room at 11:30am.
Eating and dining: The hotel has a bar and restaurant. The restaurant serves a good range of international and local cuisine at reasonable prices, and the bar also features a varied snack menu, as well as drinks, at reasonable prices. They are not as cheap as other places in Prague, but cheaper than other European hotels. Breakfast is included in most accommodation deals and is of an okay standard with a selection of breads, hams, cheeses, drinks, etc., as well as hot items that are slightly unusual, like sweet corn with bacon! It's an interesting variation on a theme.! We didn't eat lunch and dinner in the hotel as we tended to eat out locally as Prague 5 offers a good selection of varied restaurants.
The bar is nicely appointed with comfy seating and excellent staff as well as a good range of drinks at cheaper prices than comparable European hotels!
Getting around: The main centre of Prague is approximately a 20-minute walk away, although you can hop on the metro a 2-minute walk away form the hotel and travel all around the city very quickly and cheaply, with a weekly ticket costing les than £7 per person. (the main stop is 'Andels'). Taxis to and from the airport seem to be the easiest way of getting to and from the airport (although you can take the metro); taxis cost around £10 per journey and taxis are clean, new and very safe.
In the locality: In the local area, there is a large shopping centre with a good supermarket, smaller shops, and cafés; the shops are okay for essentials but if you are a huge shopping fan I don't really think that Prague is the place to come! It does have some nice tourist and souvenir shops but once you have seen one… There is also a cinema behind the hotel that shows films in English, and there are some good restaurants, including those serving Mexican, Czech, and Italian. Check out the Jet Set cocktail bar for cheap cocktails and drinks (just around the corner from the hotel)!
Advantages: Beautiful, stylish and great location Disadvantages: £££'s (but worth it)
I stayed here last February for my birthday. The whole trip was a surprise from my boyfriend and I never expected this wonderful hotel. The hotel itself is in the Andel district which is on the metro line so very easy to get to and from the centre. The hotel itself has the Wow factor. Very stylish and modern but still maintaining a very cosy atmosphere. The staff were excellent and always on hand to help. We had a fantastic double room with a huge ... ...it home with me. You could listen to the radio in there, it had a bath and a shower cubicle. They also had very nice toiletries. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Everything you could ever want from a cooked breakfast to continental to pancakes and croissants. The location was fantastic with the local brewery (Staropramen no less) right round the corner. There is also a shopping centre near by with everything you could possibly want and plenty ...

this hotel is absolutely stunning and has everything the modern traveller could want!
the rooms are stylishly and simply designed, everything in this hotel screams style at you! the fluffy white bath robes and slippers in your room, with a huge range of complimentary teas and hot drinks all add to your experience. the rooms all have internet access, plus there's a dvd player, and you can rent films from reception should you not feel like exploring at night.
the bathroom was beautifully kitted out in glass and chrome, and the cleanliness was second to none.
whilst waiting for the lift downstairs, there is again complimentary drinks and large sofas to take the weight off!
