I took a journey with a friend of mine to Norwich one Saturday and caught a service that stopped at only two stations to Norwich. I purchased a Saver ticket for approx £20 with a Young Persons Railcard. After paying with a £5 voucher and obtaining the Weekend First upgrade, the total ticket cost a mere £25, which for First Class travel is a damn good price. Weekend First is a supplement to upgrade to First Class on Saturdays and Sundays. It is £5 per single (£10 for the 2 legs of a return ticket) on Anglia Railways, which is very good value. If you require this, simply sit in First Class and ask for the Weekend First upgrade from the Train Manager.
Seating in First Class is typically 2+1 with seating in Standard Class 2+2 (2+2 means two seats on one side of the aisle, and two on the other). The seats recline in First Class, but not in Standard Class. Both classes are comfortable to sit, and are not too hard or soft.
Ride quality varies greatly. As most of Anglia Railways mainline carriage stock is classed as Mark 2 (soon to withdrawn by Virgin on all routes, these carriages are older than those operated by operators such as Midland Mainline and GNER), the quality is not as good. There is sometimes a large amount of noise from the brakes, and it can be a little bumpy. If you are lucky enough to sit in the Buffet Car on an AR InterCity train, you will have a better ride quality and less noise. However, it has to be said that as they are old trains it is bearable and is not a major concern.
On-board catering is good. I especially enjoyed a sandwich from the buffet as it was something simple and tasty. Prices are average, but good for the railways in general.
Staff remain very friendly and is a credit to the company. It is highly unusual to find staff like that on trains nowerdays. We need more!!!
Stations are again, something to be proud of. Liverpool Street is always a commuter mecca, but remains a place that doesn't look shabby considering the number of users. Ipswich and Norwich stations are attractive and clean and again, a credit to the company.
Sadly i have yet to sample the local services operated by AR, or the CrossLink route either. I would recommend the CrossLink trains - they are new and very comfortable. The CrossLink Explorer is available for £10 and more information is available from the National Rail website! Well worth using!
I cannot praise Anglia Railways enough for their efforts.
I recently had to make a trip from Lowestoft to London to take my nephew to Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children. Instead of making the usual 3-½ hour journey by car, I decided to investigate the price of train tickets. After a few minutes searching the Internet, I stumbled across Anglia railways web site. (www.angliarailways.co.uk)
The site is extremely simple to navigate, with ... ...make a telephone call to Anglia Railways customer services department to clarify the situation. My call was answered within a few rings and was greeted by a very enthusiastic human voice – makes a change! I aired my concerns and was advised that indeed a small error had been made with the tickets but this would be rectified immediately and I would receive new documents through the post. Once again, they arrived the very next day.
Everything ...

...Now about my trip on Anglia Railways:
To be honest I was so nervous about the interview that I didn’t pay that much attention to my journey to London. I was a little stressed though as I got onto the wrong train in the first place. I’d looked at the information on the screens and it said the London Train was in Platform 1A so I got on the one that was there. However a man came round and asked everyone where they were going. A lady behind me said ... ...train and welcomes you to Anglia Railways. Later a bit into the journey the steward gives details of where to find the Buffet car and what delicious delights are on offer. There was quite a selection. I fancied a bacon buttie but didn’t want to move and lose my seat.
The seats are basic. However I am not that large a lady but only just had enough room. There was enough leg room. There was also a small pull-down table in front of me to write this ...

...positives with travelling from East Anglia into the rest of the UK, and it's been hard....
Punctuality: I have to say that the trains run, and well run. Given the intercity routes between Norwich and London are busy, and the slightest hiccup can lead to all sorts of trouble, they do run reasonably well.... That is, until you get to London. It is annoying to see other trains going directly into the station when every time you are on the intercity, ... ...into london for an evening, Anglia don't offer any decent Apex tickets like Virgin do. Manchester is 180 miles ish from London (3 times the distance) and the cheapest price is £5 less!!!!
It gets worse.... Manningtree is 10 miles from Ipswich, and the cost of an off peak ticket is ten pounds cheaper! Not only that, FREE PARKING THERE AT THE WEEKENDS!

This is third hand, normally from the west coast line (ex virgin), so it's pretty ...

Advantages: better service, cleaner trains Disadvantages: staff still a bit like BR staff at times
Anglia are my local rail operator and although I do not travel by rail that much I do occasionally go to town and have worked in London and commuted there.
Anglia have certainly improved in the last few years but the funny posters they put up claiming 95% punctuallity have got to be by the brothers grimm. Certainly the trains are getting better although the new trains have very few seats and thus you often end up standing for a long (1 hour from ... ...a safety issue there as wel, as if there is a crash people would topple over onto each other in a big heap.
The staff are more friendly but the london end still has the standard guard who does not seem to want to know and gives you a dirty look if you should dare to ask when the next train is.
The service has improved but has a long way to go yet. good start though. And the fares are way too high ...

...write a short opinion about Anglia Railways.
Introduction
------------
Just a short introduction about Anglia Railways before I actually give an opinion. Anglia Railways operate two services in one - a main line service and a local service. The main line service operates between Liverpool Street and Norwich. The local services operate between Ipswich-Lowestoft, Ipswich-Cambridge, Norwich-Lowestoft/Great Yarmouth, Norwich-Sheringham and the new ... ...is CRAP!

ANGLIA RAILWAYS IS A TOP CLASS TRAIN OPERATOR. They have thought of many new innovations (the doomed crosslink and the more successful Norwich-Cambridge service). They are one of the few operators in the country who actually 'do a good job'. They have cheap fares (hooray) and they actually think about their customers. WELL DONE ANGLIA! ...

. Interchange can be made at Stratford for the Jubilee and Central Lines, Docklands Light Railway (see my opinion on the DLR for more info), Silverlink services and CrossRail to Basingstoke. There is no First Class on these services, and they are not the most comfortable trains that FGE operate.
As well as Metro services, the company offers longer-distance services to Southend Victoria, Clacton, Ispwich and others. First Great Eastern is the stopping operator on the line between Ipswich and London (mainline fast services provided by AngliaRailways). These are provided by Class 321 trains which are being refurbished at the moment to provide a higher level of comfort. Passengers on these trains have the option of a First Class compartment. Some routes have on occasions older slam door services, but these are a minority.

Central Trains operate a variety of services in around the Midlands. Main services are in Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham areas, but they do have arms reaching as far out as Liverpool, Cardiff (Caerdydd) and Norwich.
As a person that uses them as my local operator, I have to say they operate in some strange areas, that I wouldn't call 'Central'. Whilst they operate a long-distance train from Liverpool to Norwich, the Central Trains lines in East Anglia should really be handed over to AngliaRailways, and to First North Western in Liverpool.
Ranging from new Class 170 Turbostars on longer routes, right down to mainly 158 Sprinters and even 1-carriage DMU's, comfort varies depending on your destination. Turbostars are not too bad to travel on, but are having 'technical difficulties' which cause poor performance and late running ...

INTRODUCTION
Norwich is one of the biggest cities in East Anglia.
Three hundred years ago, it was the largest provincial city in the country, and some still see it as the capital of East Anglia. It is situated in Norfolk, a county renowned for its scenic broads and unspoilt coastline.
The city itself is served by several major roads, including the M11, A14, A12 and A140. The main city railway station is located to the south and is about 10 minutes walk from the main shopping area. AngliaRailways run services every 30 minutes from Norwich to London Liverpool Street, and Central Trains run services to Peterborough and the North (Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester). Norwich also has its own airport, with flights to over 300 destinations worldwide, including Amsterdam and Paris.
