Pure Glacial Waters from a Fjord in my Fridge

Advantages: Great design, excellent filtered water, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: None.

I honestly never thought I needed a water filter in my life, let alone that I'd grow to find it indispensible but in the case of my Brita Fjord Cool filter jug, that's exactly what's happened. I bought it on a whim as it was reduced to £10 in Woolworths and I decided to treat myself to something I considered at the time to be frivolous yet practical. There were a few Brita filter jugs on offer at the same price and I chose the Fjord Cool model simply because it looked a bit sleeker and sexier than the others available. As soon as I got home, I quickly decided to test out my new 'gadget.' On this occasion, I did read the instructions which included handy diagrams to show you how to insert the filter cartridge into the jug. Gales Whales and Fairytales!

Advantages: Spectacular scenery, rich cultural heritage, ideal base for Viking adventures....
Disadvantages: A long way to travel by sea, astronomical beer pricing

Many moons ago, on a German language summer course in Mannheim, I became good pals with a Norwegian chap. Its historic and breathtaking harbour front featuring the World Heritage listed "Bryggen" - in essence a unique collection of colourfully painted and beautifully preserved wooden houses - helps ensure its status as an extremely popular destination for tourism. I'll be honest from the outset. Frankly, as an unattached 24 year old setting out on a week's adventure, fully hoping to help a succession of fresh faced, blond ...

Review of Bergen & fjords (Norway)

Bergen, Ships and Beens, please.

Advantages: Beautiful, historic, friendlyand very different.
Disadvantages: Wet in Summer, Cold in Winter.

the direction of St James? Park clad in little more than their stripey tops (though I did notice a few had trousers and such on too). We were scheduled for a short hop across the North Sea in the general direction of North East, (hoping all the time that the skipper of our vessel had a better idea about navigation than did we), and had therefore carried along some fairly heavy duty clothing, which felt, in the warmth of that pleasant Saturday afternoon, to be a bit over the top. Little did we know, gentle reader. Little did we know. We arrived in the eerily calm waters of Norway?s coruscating coastline about 20 hours later, with a flying visit to Stavanger. Cars left, people left and we were off again, on the pondlike surface of the fjords, heading (with many a twist and turn) due North. Another stop at Haugasund left us rattling around a bit ...
